Tuesday 25 May 2004 | 00:00 CET | News
Intel (Santa Clara, CA), chip manufacturer, will acquire the engineering design teams of Elbrus MCST and Unipro (both Russia), both specialists in high-tech R&D. Elbrus MCST and Unipro carry out R&D into semiconductor design, hardware design, compilers, Java, and other technologies. Intel will also license intellectual property from the two firms. Elbrus has been developing 32-bit and 64-bit chips which may rival Intel's chips. About 500 staff will join Intel due to the acquisition.
