Global music streaming service, Rdio has announced it is acquiring music discovery and curation service, TastemakerX. The integration includes Rdio's absorption of the entire TastmakerX team, including former CEO and co-founder, Marc Ruxin, and co-founder Sandro Pugilese. No financial details of the takeover were disclosed.
Based in San Francisco, California, TastemakerX was founded in 2011 and develops mobile and web products to enable listeners to discover new music, build and listen to virtual collections and view artists based on social discovery.
Ruxin will head corporate marketing, ad sales, brand partnerships, business development, programming and evangelism for Rdio. Prior to founding TastemakerX, Ruxin was EVP and chief innovation officer at Universal McCann and McCann Erikson.
In addition to the TastemakerX team, Rdio has announced two more key hires. Jim Rondinell joins as the new senior vice president of content licensing and catalogue acquisition. He will be responsible for leading catalogue acquisitions. In addition, Mat Bates has joined as head of radio and programming to lead the creation of Rdio's programming voice and radio experience. Bates joins Rdio from Slacker.
