SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable system lands at Melaka

Telekom Malaysia (TM) and NEC have announced they have completed the landing of the South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 5 (SEA-ME-WE 5) submarine cable system at Melaka, Malaysia. NEC is in charge of deploying the segment spanning from Singapore to Sri Lanka, including the Malaysia branch.

Upon completion in 2016, the 20,000 km cable system will provide 24 Tbps of capacity using a 100 Gbps coherent transmission technology via a fiber optic path between South East Asia, the Middle East and Europe, with connections to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Oman, the UAE, Djibouti, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Republic of Turkey, Italy and France.

SEA-ME-WE 5 cable lands in France

The SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable, due to be operational in the second half, has landed today at the submarine cable station of La Seyne-sur-Mer, near Toulon in southern France. The 20,000 km fibre cable will connect France to Singapore, serving fifteen countries along the way. SLT opens SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable landing station

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has announced the arrival of the SEA-ME-WE 5 multi-regional superhighway in Sri Lanka by opening the cable-landing station building for the SEA-ME-WE 5 in Matara. Back in 2014, SLT signed a partnership agreement with 15 international telecom operators representing 17 countries, in the formation of a consortium to build the South East Asia - Middle East - Western Europe 5 (SEA-ME-WE 5) undersea cable system.

TI Sparkle, Telecom Italia Group's international operator, has announced that the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe (SEA-ME-WE 5) submarine cable system has been successfully connected to its landing station at Catania in Sicily. The completion of the landing is an important milestone towards the completion of the submarine cable, said TI Sparkle, adding that the 20,000 kilometre SEA-ME-WE 5 is due to go into full operation by the end of the year.
