Telekom Romania and Orange Romania confirmed they entered into two network-sharing deals that cover Telekom's access to Orange's LTE network and Orange's access to Telekom's fixed network. The first deal covers LTE and LTE-A data as well as 4G voice over LTE services, while the second provides Orange with access to Telekom's fibre-optic urban network. Orange said it will complement its existing portfolio of mobile voice, internet services, satellite television and internet services with fixed broadband internet at speeds of up to 1Gbps and television through Telekom Romania's fibre-optic network. The high broadband speeds will only be available in urban areas, Orange said. Orange also confirmed it will soon launch fixed-mobile packages.
Orange's 4G/4G+ network covers 72 percent of the country's population and 96 percent of the urban population. The transition between networks will be seamless and will not require any additional costs for the customers, Telekom Romania said. Telekom Romania also mentioned that the benefits of this project will allow it to continue investing in areas which are not currently covered as well as promote competitive offers and services.
The structure of the projects based on the two contracts will enable Telekom Romania and Orange Romania to further compete independently on the market, in accordance with their own commercial policy and business strategy, Telekom Romania said.
