Barcelona secures Mobile World Congress until 2023

The GSMA and the Barcelona City Partners have signed an agreement to keep the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in the Catalan capital until 2023. The new deal represents a five-year extension to the current contract, which expires in 2018, and also means Barcelona will retain the title of Mobile World Capital for the next eight years. The Barcelona City Partners comprise the Spanish industry ministry, the Catalan regional government (Generalitat), Turisme de Barcelona, Fira de Barcelona and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation (BMWCF).

The annual industry event attracted over 93,000 visitors this year and is estimated to have contributed over EUR 436 million and nearly 12,675 part-time jobs to the local economy. According to Catalan daily La Vanguardia, MWC has contributed over EUR 3 billion to the city since 2006, the first time Barcelona hosted the event.
