Deutsche Telekom hat tested connectivity through geostationary (GEO) and low earth orbit (LEO) satellites to offer IoT connectivity across multiple satellite orbits. Iridium annual sales, EBITDA up 5%, forecasts limited service revenue growth in 2026

Iridium reported revenue in 2025 of USD 871.7 million, up 5 percent from the previous year thanks mainly to growth in the IoT market. OEBITDA rose 5 percent as well, to USD 495.3 million, in line with its outlook, and the satellite company's net profit improved to USD 114.4 million from USD 112.8 million in 2024. Amazon Leo completes first launch with Ariane 6 rocket

Amazon has completed its first satellite launch with Arianespace. The mission aboard an Ariane 64 rocket was completed 12 February from French Guiana, taking 32 satellites into orbit. This was the first flight for the Ariane 64, Europe's new heavy-lift version of the Ariane 6 launcher with four boosters. It is also the first of 18 missions planned for Amazon as it expands its constellation.

New Zealand increases space launch limit tenfold

The New Zealand government has announced the number of permitted space vehicle launches in the country will increase from 100 to 1000. The 100-launch limit was set in 2017 and was due to be reached by mid-2026. After the limit was reached, each launch would have to apply for a notified marine consent, which could take up to six months to get and cost up to NZD 1 million. The new 1000-launch limit could be reached by 2050 at the earliest.

Starlink powers onboard Wi-Fi connectivity for Southwest Airlines

US airline Southwest Airlines has appointed Starlink to deliver ultrafast onboard Wi-Fi connectivity for passengers across 11 countries. Japan plans to subsidise the development of technology designed to protect satellite telecommunications signals from jamming attacks, with commercialisation targeted for around 2033, according to Nikkei, citing industry sources. The ministry of internal affairs and communications will begin subsidising the manufacturing costs of components for anti-jamming equipment from the next fiscal year. Testing is expected to start as early as this summer, with device development aimed for completion by fiscal 2028.
