SpaceX sells more shares after market cap passes USD 2 trillion

SpaceX has exercised the over-allotment option for its initial public offering of shares, selling another 83.3 million shares at the issue price of USD 135 per share. This takes the total gross proceeds of the IPO on the Nasdaq market to USD 85.7 billion. The shares started trading as planned on 12 June and rose 19 percent in the first day, to close at USD 160.95. This gives the company a market capitalisation of USD 2.1 trillion.

Starlink will launch commercial fixed satellite internet services in Cote d'Ivoire in July, Space in Africa reported. Regulator ARTCI has granted operational authorisation to Starlink Network CIV for twelve months. Djibril Ouattara, the minister of digital transition and technological innovation, said the licence lets Starlink offer services that can connect schools, health centres and remote rural areas that previously lacked internet access.

Neterra, an authorized reseller of Starlink by SpaceX, has announced price reductions across its portfolio of Starlink satellite terminals. Starlink terminals are now available for purchase in 156 territories worldwide. Neterra reports that customers in 129 territories can benefit from discounts exceeding 15 percent, while 99 territories can now access reductions ranging from 50 percent to 80 percent on selected products.

Excelerate Technology, UK-based global communications/connectivity solutions provider, has won a contract from Clare County Fire and Rescue Service in Ireland to upgrade its Incident Command Unit (ICU) into a modern mobile command platform. SpaceX IPO to go ahead at USD 135 per share on 12 June

The initial public offering of shares in SpaceX is going ahead with the retail offer price per share confirmed at USD 135 each for 555.56 million shares, valuing the IPO at USD 75 billion. The total market capitalisation of the company on the commencement of dealings on 12 June will be USD 1.75 trillion. The offering is expected to close on 15 June. SpaceX said it has also granted its underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up 83.33 million more class A common shares at the IPO price.

Russian company Teleport, belonging to the Nota Group, has completed test operations of a private 2G network deployed for the mining company Rosgeologia in the Republic of Sakha, reports Dprom.ru. Space42 has announced that its Foresight-3, Foresight-4 and Foresight-5 satellites are now fully operational, expanding the Foresight Earth Observation (EO) constellation to five operational Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites. The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has upgraded 98 digital centres with Starlink technology nationwide, including ten centres in Masvingo province. It said 59 digital centres and post offices have been solarised to improve service reliability and operational sustainability. Paraguay deploys Starlink to connect rural schools and clinics

Paraguay's state-run operator Copaco has begun deploying 1,600 Starlink satellite internet kits to connect schools and healthcare centres in rural areas, the government. The digital inclusion initiative aims to provide high-speed connectivity to more than 50,000 students and teachers, with the first 100 units already installed in the remote Chaco region.

Amazon seeks Kenyan approval for satellite earth station

Amazon has formally applied for regulatory approval to build and operate its first African satellite ground station in Kenya. The application was submitted by local subsidiary Amazon Kuiper Kenya to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) and seeks a fifteen-year International Gateway Operator licence. According to a Kenya Gazette notice published by the CA,  it has applied for a Network Facilities Provider (NFP) Tier 2 licence, the same category currently used by Starlink in Kenya.

Japan's Sky Perfect Jsat and Avanti Communications have signed an agreement for the acquisition of the Ka-band communications satellite Hylas 3, currently owned and operated by Avanti in geostationary orbit. Under the agreement, Sky Perfect Jsat will assume ownership of the satellite following the completion of in-orbit testing and related procedures. The satellite is expected to enter service under the name JSAT-144D in early fiscal year 2027.

Lithuanian national telecommunications regulator RRT said it has signed an administrative agreement related to the coordination of satellite frequencies under the EU satellite IRIS2 initiative. IRIS2 aims to create safe and reliable satellite communications infrastructure in the EU and help ensure connectivity in more remote areas, strengthen cybersecurity and reduce dependence on third-party technologies.

Telia Finland has announced the presentation at the NATO Innovation Range Finland 2026 of a method to detect GNSS interference and monitor atmospheric humidity.
