Open Fiber activates FTTH in 34 more Lombard localities

Italian wholesale-only operator Open Fiber has finished the cabling of its FTTH infrastructure in another 34 localities in the provinces of Milan and Bergamo in the northern Lombardy region. A total of 60,000 homes, commercial premises and offices have been connected to the fibre network, allowing residents and businesses to access the internet at speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps via operator partners.

Sky Sport Golf acquires US Open and Italian Open rights through 2027

Pay-TV broadcaster Sky Italia said it has acquired the rights to air the current edition of the United States Open Championship golf, one of the four Majors of the season, as well as the Italian Golf Open for the 2026 and 2027 editions. The 126th US Open will be played from 18-21 June at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton , New York, with Sky Sport and Now offering over 40 hours of live coverage during the four days of competition.

Under the promo, customers will be able to use TIM Giga&Music with Apple Music and 20GB of bonus data a month at 5G Ultra speeds for a four-month period.

Italy's Rai Way, EI Towers extend talks on tower merger to end-June

Italian broadcasting tower operators Rai Way and EI Towers have agreed to extended negotiations on a potential merger of their activities until the end of June after missing a previously set 15 June deadline. A tie-up between Rai Way, majority owned by state broadcaster RAI, and rival EI Towers, owned by infrastructure fund F2i and commercial broadcaster MFE, would create a joint TV tower company with around 4,700 sites worth nearly EUR 4 billion.

Megaport activates PoPs at Aruba.it data centres

Italian ISP and cloud services specialist Aruba.it said it has activated two new Points of Presence (PoPs) at its IT3 and IT4 data centres in Ponte San Pietro and in Rome for global network-as-a-service (NaaS) provider Megaport. The integration, announced during Megaport's European tour in Monza, enhances on-demand, software-defined connectivity options available within Aruba.it's infrastructure.

Italian cloud storage developer Cubbit has partnered with data protection provider Commvault to deliver integrated services aimed at strengthening digital sovereignty and cyber resilience for organisations in Italy and across Europe. The collaboration focuses on simplifying data management in hybrid and multi-cloud environments while addressing heightened cybersecurity risks, including ransomware and service disruptions, as well as increasing regulatory demands such as GDPR, DORA, and NIS2.

Italy's inflation confirmed at 3.2% in May

Italy's annual inflation rate (NIC) climbed again to 3.2 percent in May, up from 2.7 percent the previous month and 1.0 percent in January, according to final data from statistics agency Istat that confirmed the preliminary estimate. The increase was attributed to higher energy, transport, recreation and unprocessed food prices linked to the impact of instability in the Middle East.

Italian operator WindTre has relaunched a low-cost unlimited data plan in its Go-branded range first offered in February for customers of rival companies porting their number. The plan, called WindTre Go Unlimited XS 5G Digital, includes unlimited minutes to all national landline and mobile numbers plus 50 SMS to all national numbers as well as unlimited data at fastest possible 5G speeds for EUR 5.99 a month.

Italy's antitrust and competition authority AGCM has launched a new probe into whether Apple is ensuring third-party providers of consumer cloud services free and effective interoperability with hardware and software features controlled by its iOS and iPadOS operating systems. The investigation, the first conducted by AGCM under the ⁠European Digital Markets Act (DMA), comes after the watchdog fined Apple a total of over EUR 98.6 million for alleged abuse of its dominant position in the local apps market at

TIM finalises 1-for-10 reverse stock split

Telecom Italia (TIM) said it has completed a reverse stock split of its ordinary shares at a ratio of one new share for every ten existing shares, following shareholder approval granted in April. In a short statement, TIM said the transaction was finalised after the cancellation of five ordinary shares provided by Intermonte SIM to ensure the overall mathematical balance of the reverse split.

Iliad Italia has followed rivals by launching a 'winback' plan aimed at former customers with 250GB of data for under EUR 10 a month, reports Mondo Mobile Web, citing SMS sent to users. The offer, called Iliad Top 250 Plus, comes with unlimited minutes to mobile and fixed line numbers in Italy, Canada and the US, as well as unlimited calls to foreign fixed line numbers in dozens of countries, plus unlimited SMS and the 250GB data bundle at fastest possible 5G speeds for EUR 9.99 a month.

TIM ups monthly price of more TIMvision packages

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced on its website that subscribers to a number of its TIMvision pay-TV packages will be charged an additional EUR 2 a month more starting later on this summer. The move attributed to "economic needs arising from the change in market conditions for offers that include TV content" follows similar unilateral price hikes announced for certain mobile, landline and pay-TV offers earlier this year.

Iliad Italia has released its latest sustainability report, covering progress made in 2025, above all highlighting progress made in cutting its environmental impact and advancing its decarbonisation strategy in line with targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The operator reported reductions in both direct and indirect emissions, supported by investments in cleaner energy and more efficient infrastructure.

TIM launches summer ad campaign for FWA 5G offer

Telecom Italia (TIM) has launched a new episode of its advertising campaign located in a military fort to promote its FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) offer with a 5G antenna ahead of the summer season. The corresponding ad appearing on all main TV and social media channels features actor Massimo Lopez and singer Gigi D'Alessio engaged in a long-distance conversation between the fort and a picturesque seaside location.

Italian wholesale-only operator Open Fiber has finalised the cabling of its FTTH infrastructure in nearly two dozen new localities in the northeastern Veneto region. A total of 61,000 homes, commercial premises and offices across 23 localities in the in the provinces of Verona and Vicenza have been connected to the fibre network, allowing residents and businesses to access the internet at speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps via operator partners.

Spusu Italia marks 6th anniversary with data giveaway

The Italian MVNO of Austrian operator Spusu announced that all customers will be offered an extra 6 GB of data at no extra cost to celebrate the sixth anniversary of its launch. The operator said the extra data will be added to the monthly bundle of all customers when they renew their offer from 15 June to 14 July.

Italian police dismantle Calabria-based pirate streaming network

Italy's Guardia di Finanza financial police have taken down a pirate streaming network in the southern Calabria region, targeting illegal IPTV services that provided unauthorised access to major platforms including Sky, Dazn, Netflix and Disney+. The operation, led by the Guardia di Finanza in Crotone and coordinated with local prosecutors, identified 2,769 users across 43 provinces in Italy who allegedly accessed paid content through illicit decoders.

TIM receives EUR 1 bln licence fee refund

Telecom Italia (TIM) said it has received a refund amounting to "just over EUR 1 billion" for licence fee payments dating back 28 years. The refund corresponds to the restitution of the licence fee TIM paid in 1998, the year after the country's telecommunications sector was deregulated. In a short statement, TIM confirmed the amount covers the original licence fee of just over EUR 500 million plus revaluation and accrued interest.

CoopVoce launches ad campaign for Turbo 200 offer

The MVNO of Italian supermarket chain Coop has launched a new advertising campaign on leading TV stations and online for the 5G service it debuted earlier this year and its CoopVoce Turbo 200 prepay tariff. The ad features a worker who suddenly screams and starts running out of the office, ending up in a Thai temple chanting the mantra "Meno pensieri, più CoopVoce" ("Less thoughts, more CoopVoce").

TIM to begin 1-for-10 reverse stock split on 15 June

Telecom Italia (TIM) said it will begin a reverse stock split of its ordinary shares on 15 June, consolidating them at a ratio of one new share for every ten existing shares following shareholder approval in April. The move will reduce the number of ordinary shares to around 2.14 billion from 21.36 billion, while leaving the group's share capital unchanged at EUR 6 billion.

Fastweb+Vodafone debuts sovereign open-source cloud platform

Italian operator Fastweb+Vodafone has expanded its FASTCloud platform with launch of a sovereign cloud architecture based on open-source technologies aimed at businesses and public administration bodies. The offering, dubbed FASTCloud Open Source, is designed to enhance technological autonomy, reduce reliance on single vendors and prevent lock-in by allowing organisations to select and integrate different virtualisation systems.
