Agcom confirms FiberCop's status as wholesale-only operator

Italy's communications regulator Agcom has officially confirmed the identification of FiberCop as a "wholesale-only" operator in its latest fixed network access market analysis, following a preliminary report issued last year. The approved text, which incorporates the favourable opinions of Italy's competition authority AGCM and the observations of the European Commission, eases the previously-applied regulatory obligations on pricing and access, said the watchdog.

TIM board confirms return to FY profit following NetCo sale

The board of directors of Telecom Italia (TIM) has approved the company's full-year preliminary results released last month, confirming the group's return to profit in 2025 following the previous year's sale of its domestic fixed-line network NetCo. TIM's consolidated net profit came to EUR 519 million for the year ending 31 December 2025, compared to a EUR 364 million loss in 2024.

Sky Italia has launched a series of offers for its 'Now Wifi' fixed broadband service, reports Mondo Mobile Web. Users can access a plan at a price of EUR 22.90 a month for the first 12 months instead of EUR 29.90 online, with selected Now customers offered a subscription at a price of EUR 19.90 a month for 12 months, with the usual activation fee of EUR 49 waived under the promo valid until 29 March.

Telecom Italia (TIM) has launched a device-led spring offer whereby any new and existing customers acquiring a smartphone in instalments will receive a free handset or device from the same brand completely free of charge. The promo, dubbed "2x1", is available via the TIMFin financing service until the end of March in TIM stores and online.

Italian operator WindTre launched a new online only offer for customers who set up a new number. Under the offer, the Promo Special 5G Online and Promo Special 5G Easy Pay Online plans are available for less than EUR 10 a month, with the first month gifted and no activation fees payable for a new SIM or eSIM.

WindTre 5G TDD coverage tops 81% of Italian population

Italian operator WindTre has further expanded the coverage of its 5G TDD (Time Division Duplex) network to over 80 percent of the country's population. According to the latest update on WindTre's website, the network can be accessed by 81 percent of the population across all Italian regions, including major cities in Tuscany, Marche, Lazio, Lombardy, Sicily, Piedmont, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Puglia, Veneto, Calabria, Abruzzo and Sardinia, up from 79.7 percent at the end of last year.

Italian telecommunications industry group Assotelecomunicazioni (Asstel) has signed a "Joint Notice" with trade unions Slc-Cgil, Fistel-Cisl, Uilcom-Uil and management association Federmanager to outline priorities for the sector's sustainable industrial development and employment. The agreement seeks to reinforce the role of telecommunications as a key infrastructure for Italy's digital transformation and economic growth.

Sky Italia has launched a series of new 'Sky Wifi' fixed broadband offers for current pay-TV subscribers. Italian operator Fastweb+Vodafone said it has partnered with Fondazione Libellula to turn more than 100 of its retail outlets into listening and support centres for women affected by gender-based and domestic violence. The initiative follows staff training launched in 2025, with about 350 employees across 120 stores in major regional and provincial capitals now qualified to assist victims or those aware of potential abuse cases.

Dazn Italia to offer Lazio-Milan Serie A game on FTA

Live sports streaming platform Dazn Italia has announced that it will be broadcasting the Serie A football league game between Lazio and AC Milan live on its freemium tier on 15 March at 8.45pm. The game is the fourth of five free-to-air games from Italy's top-tier league that Dazn intends to air during the 2025-26 season. Anyone who registers with their email via the company's app will be able to watch the game on an exclusive basis via Dazn's free tier.

Iliad Italia offers free data bundle and discounted calls to users in Middle East

Iliad Italia has announced that customers in some Middle Eastern countries affected by the current international crisis will be offered a free data bundle and roaming discounts for the foreseeable future so that they can contact friends and family. As a result of the travel disruption caused by the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, customers currently located in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman will be offered an additional 15 GB of data for free.

Telecom Italia (TIM) said its cybersecurity subsidiary Telsy has set up network resistant to future quantum computing threats for Sparkasse, described as the first in the country for a banking group. The system provides the financial institution with connection technologies designed to protect sensitive data and communications from the potential vulnerabilities that may emerge with advances in quantum cryptography.

Open Fiber activates FTTH network in Volturino

Italian wholesale-only operator Open Fiber said it has completed the cabling of its FTTH infrastructure in Volturino, a locality in the southern Puglia region. A total of around 2,000 homes, commercial premises and offices have been connected to the fibre network, allowing residents and businesses to access the internet at gigabit speeds via operator partners.

WindTre sets up 5G MPN for healthcare facilities during Winter Games

Italian operator WindTre said it has deployed 5G connectivity to support telemedicine services in 24 healthcare facilities across Lombardy and Trentino for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and forthcoming Paralympic Games. The project, carried out in partnership with state-owned infrastructure agency Infratel, aims to strengthen digital healthcare infrastructure for both temporary and permanent medical sites.

Very Mobile, the low-cost brand of Italian operator WindTre, has launched an 'operator attack' plan that comes with 300GB of data and unlimited national calls for under EUR 6 a month. The EUR 5.99 a month Very Promo Meta rate can be activated online via Facebook and Instagram by customers porting their number from Iliad, PosteMobile, CoopVoce and other MVNOs.

Telecom Italia's low-cost brand Kena has launched a new promotion that offers all new and existing customers a free 70GB data bundle at 5G speeds of up to 250 Mbps. Under the promo, customers have until 09 March to activate the bundle at no extra cost to be used up over a period of 72 hours via the My Kena application and customer area.

Italian retail sales rebound 0.6% in January, e-commerce up over 4%

Italy's retail sales returned to monthly growth in January, rising 0.6 percent in value and 0.4 percent in volume compared to December, according to the latest preliminary data from national statistics office Istat. Nearly all product groups increased, led by computers and telecommunications equipment (+3.9%) and food items (+1.1%).

WindTre inks 7-year core network deal with Ericsson

Italian operator WindTre has reaffirmed its longstanding partnership with Ericsson after signing a seven-year agreement with the Finnish company to modernise its core network and further accelerate 5G deployment. The deal expands the contract signed in 2022 to bring 5G core technology to WindTre ahead of the launch of 5G Standalone.

Open Fiber joins EUR 1 mln InDRA edge computing project

Italian wholesale operator Open Fiber is taking part in a EUR 1 million research project aimed at developing edge cloud computing systems for smart city services. The initiative, named InDRA (Distributed Intelligence for Advanced Networks) is led by Sapienza University of Rome and involves partners including Huawei, Lutech, FibreConnect and PTS. The consortium will test smart city applications such as intelligent traffic systems, predictive maintenance tools and digital twin simulations.
