Open Fiber expands FTTH to more towns in Ligurgia

Italian wholesale-only operator Open Fiber completed the roll-out of its FTTH infrastructure in eight new localities in the Ligurgia region. Over 17,000 homes, commercial premises and offices have been connected to the fibre network which delivers broadband at up to 10 Gbps. To promote the launch, anyone who signs up to a fibre plan via any of Open Fiber's partners in the newly-connected towns will receive a voucher worth EUR 100 free of charge under the company's "La fibra che ti premia" ("the fibre that r

WindTre H1 margin falls 5%, hit by wholesale revenue decline

Italian operator WindTre, the country's second largest MNO in terms of customers, has reported first-half revenue of EUR 1.84 billion, down 4 percent from a year earlier, according to CK Hutchison. The company's total margin fell 5 percent to EUR 1.44 billion, as a decline in the wholesale segment outweighed a slight improvement in the net customer service margin. EBITDA was down 11 percent in the period and EBIT fell 73 percent as narrower operating expenses failed to offset the margin decline.

Italian inflation dips to 2.9% in July

Italy's main domestic inflation rate (NIC) dipped to 2.9 percent on an annual basis in July, compared with 3.0 percent in June, according to data from statistics agency Istat. The preliminary estimate had been for annual inflation of 2.8 percent.

Sardinia-based Tessellis (formerly Gruppo Tiscali) said it has received a binding offer from Ehinet, owner of MVNO Ehiweb, for the B2C business unit of its Go Internet ISP. The unit includes all FTTH, FTTC and FWA network connectivity activities, including related network infrastructure and underlying Layer 2 contracts.

Live sports streaming service Dazn Italia has announced an agreement to continue broadcasting games from the top-tier Liga Portugal Betclic men's football league for another two seasons. Under the deal, Dazn will air all the matches from the three leading Primeira Liga teams Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon until 2028.

Telecom Italia (TIM) has launched a new offer that gives existing convergent customers the opportunity to sign up to an FTTH or FWA line for second homes at a special price if they pay by direct debit. Under the promo, TIM WiFi Casa Fibra subscribers who set up an FTTH line in their second homes pay EUR 21.90 a month, a discount of EUR 10 a month.

FiberCop inks state-funded deal to connect 477,000 new homes

Italian wholesale fibre provider FiberCop has signed the agreements with state investment agency Invitalia to provide connectivity for a further 477,000 addresses across Italy following the uncontested tender it won at the end of June. The tender is designed to accelerate the deployment of ultra-broadband infrastructure in digital divide areas via the newly-created National Connectivity Fund, with completion expected by June 2030.

Open Fiber backs remote vision rehab trial

Italian wholesale fibre operator Open Fiber has partnered with the Chiossone Foundation in Genoa and Linari Medical to launch a healthcare trial that telemedicine, medical technology and FTTH connectivity. The project uses AVDesk, a neurostimulator that shifts part of the therapy from clinic to home, while the fibre link allows remote monitoring and continuous transmission of clinical data so that specialists can adjust treatment as needed.

NEC has agreed to sell its overseas network equipment resale business and certain IT services operations for governments and local authorities to a consortium led by Italy-based Assist Group. Italy's retail sales fell 0.1 percent in value and volume in June compared to May, according to the latest preliminary data from national statistics office Istat. Shoes, leather goods and travel items declined 1.2 percent while thelargest increases were recorded in electric household appliances, audio-video equipment (+14.2%) and computers and telecommunications equipment (+12.6%).

Italian operator WindTre has relaunched a 'winback' plan in its Go-branded range targeted at former customers, reports Mondo Mobile Web, citing SMS sent to users. The rate, dubbed WindTre Go 220 XXS 5G, comes with unlimited minutes to all national landline and mobile numbers plus 50 SMS to all national numbers as well as a 220GB data bundle at up to 5G speeds for EUR 4.99 a month.

Sky Italia cuts cost of WiFi to under EUR 21 for TV subs

Sky Italia has launched new 'Sky Wifi' fixed broadband offers ahead of the start of the Serie A season for existing pay-TV subscribers. Users can now access plans such as Sky Wifi Plus at a price of EUR 20.90 a month for the first 18 months instead of EUR 34.90 for up to 1 Gbps broadband and unlimited calls if they sign up by 20 September.

Italian technology company Bending Spoons has agreed to buy US firm Airtable in an all-cash deal that values the enterprise software specialist at USD 1.285 billion, or USD 2.25 billion including debt. Ho Mobile, the low-cost brand of Italian operator Fastweb+Vodafone, has launched a summer promotion giving new customers a free month's top-up if they sign up to its 4G and 5G rates starting at EUR 6.95 a month. The "Ho. Un mese gratuito" ("I have a free month") offer is available to customers who port their number to the operator from Iliad, PosteMobile or CoopVoce after subscribing online or at authorised stores.

FiberCop to set up nationwide network of 100-plus edge data centres in Italy

Italian wholesale operator FiberCop has confirmed plans to build a nationwide network of more than 100 edge data centres by transforming its existing telecommunications exchanges into distributed digital hubs to support advanced services for businesses, local communities and public administrations. The first site is already operational in Rome, with additional facilities set to open in cities including Turin, Genoa, Bologna, Naples and Palermo.

Fastweb (Fastweb+Vodafone) has announced on its website that another six fixed line plans in its portfolio will be subject to a price increase of up to EUR 4 a month starting on 01 September 2026. The unilateral price hikes range from EUR 3 to EUR 4 a month and stem from the need to continue guaranteeing the best network quality and offer services to always meet customer needs, said the operator.

Italy's Feder Mobile debuts sub-EUR 5 plan with 120 GB

Italian MVNO Feder Mobile has launched a new summer-themed prepay offer with 120 GB of mobile data for under EUR 5 a month. The plan, dubbed Summer 120 Giga, also includes unlimited calls to all numbers and 50 SMS for EUR 4.99 a month, plus a EUR 9.90 fee for the SIM card and delivery, discounted from EUR 19.90, as well as a second SIM card for free.
