Tigo invests COP 85 bln in Bogota 5G and fibre upgrade

Tigo Colombia (Millicom) said it has invested over COP 85 billion this year alone to significantly expand and upgrade its fixed and mobile infrastructure in Bogota. The company, which has recently been cleared to merge with Movistar Colombia, has reinforced more than 1,700 mobile sites and carried out 275 upgrades to fixed networks in the country's capital, benefiting some 2.4 million mobile and 200,000 landline customers.

Peruvian operators ink 5G concession contracts, commit to connecting 1,731 rural localities

Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced that the concession contracts for the allocation of 5G-compatible frequencies in the 3.5 GHz band have been signed with the operators Claro (America Movil), IntegraTel, Entel and Bitel (Viettel). The operators have committed to investing a total of USD 502.9 million and to close connectivity gaps by bringing 4G to over 180,000 users in 1,731 underserved localities over the next four years.

Claro Paraguay activates country's first 5G network with USD 35 mln investment

Claro (America Movil) has become the first operator to launch 5G services in Paraguay after securing 200 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band earlier this year. The network has been activated across 12 major cities, including Asunción, Ciudad del Este, Encarnación, Coronel Oviedo and Pedro Juan Caballero following an initial investment of around USD 35 million.

Brazilian ISPs expand into VoIP, TV and rural markets

A study by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) indicates that the number of ISPs in Brazil has levelled off, but the sector is expanding into new markets and services. The sale of Brazilian regional broadband operator Ligga Telecom, owned by local businessman Nelson Tanure, is progressing with at least four interested parties, namely Vivo, Brasil TecPar and Sky, reports Valor Economico. Brazil to provide up to USD 500 million funding for TV 3.0

Brazil's External Financing Commission (Cofiex) has approved a request from the Ministry of Communications to secure up to USD 500 million (BRL 2.7 billion) in financing for the implementation of TV 3.0. Brazilian regional operator Brisanet reached over 800,000 active mobile SIM cards in November, after adding 51,517 new connections that month. This brings the total mobile base to 813,654, a 174 percent increase year-over-year. The company's mobile coverage now extends to 298 municipalities, reaching an estimated 14.68 million people, which is a 47.1 percent increase in covered population compared to November 2024.

Peru telco revenues rise 3% in year to September

Peru's leading telecom operators reported total revenues of PEN 12.5 billion in the first nine months of 2025, up 3.0 percent from a year earlier, according to the latest figures from regulator Osiptel. The result was mainly driven by higher revenues in mobile (+5.7%) and fixed internet (+8.6%) services, offset by falls in pay-TV and handset sales.
