Ecotel CEO steps down

Markus Hendrich, the chief executive officer of German business telecoms provider Ecotel, has stepped down after more than five years on the executive board of the company. Hendrich has decided not to renew his contract, which expires at the end of August. Founder Peter Zils takes over the role of CEO on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is decided.

ProSiebenSat.1 has expanded its agreement with Deutsche Telekom on video distribution, adding distribution of its paid streaming service Joyn Plus+. Telekom customers can already book a Joyn Plus+ subscription directly through Telekom since the start of this year, with a small discount for a 12-month contract.

Bechtle to cut executive board to 3 members in 2027 including incoming CEO

German IT company Bechtle said its supervisory board has resolved to extend COO Konstantin Ebert's term on the executive board early by three years until 31 December 2029. As announced in November, Ebert will succeed Thomas Olemotz as CEO on 01 January 2027. It has also decided to streamline the executive board to three members from the start of next year to help Bechtle to maintain efficiency and enable fast decision-making.

Deutsche Telekom has officially opened the new AI factory in Munich built with Nvidia to provide companies, research institutions and the public sector in Germany and Europe with high-performance computing power for artificial intelligence. Its infrastructure is based on nearly 10,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, including Nvidia DGX B200 systems and Nvidia RTX Pro Server GPUs, to deliver computing power of up to 0.5 ExaFLOPS.

Total revenues at Vodafone Germany increased by only 0.1 percent year-on-year in the third quarter ending in December to EUR 3.10 billion, as service revenue growth was offset by lower equipment revenue. Tele Columbus data traffic up 19% in 2025

Data traffic on the network of German operator Tele Columbus increased by 19 percent in 2025 to 2.44 exabytes. At the same time, the average data consumption per customer rose 6.6 percent during the period to reach 325 GB per month. The increase is the consequence of growth in the number of customers receiving internet and telephony services, and increased use of data-intensive applications and services.

ProSiebenSat.1 misses FY profit target

ProSiebenSat.1 did not achieve the company's target for adjusted EBITDA set for the fiscal year 2025. The company expected adjusted EBITDA of EUR 420-450 million in 2025, a target already cut in November from its previous guidance of EUR 420-470 million. Now, according to preliminary and unaudited figures, the broadcaster expects the figure to amount to around EUR 405 million, on the back of weaker TV advertising in Germany in the last quarter of the year.

Vodafone Germany introduces second-generation GigaTV Home box

Vodafone Germany has introduced the the new GigaTV Home box for its cable customers. With a more powerful design to support features such as Dolby Vision HDR and more streaming, the box also comes with a redesigned remote control with backlit buttons and improved ergonomics. The box is available for EUR 9.99 per month for the first six months of a 24-month contract and then costs EUR 14.99 per month. The contract includes a TV package offering access to 82 channels in SD and 57 channels in HD.

Telefonica Germany has expanded its 5G network to Grafrath, Binzen, and Banzkow. In all three communities the company has upgraded a mast to 5G. Telefonica has continued to expand the 5G network, conducting 8,000 expansion measures last year. Vodafone Germany upgrades cable upload speeds to 75 Mbps

Vodafone Germany announced it will activate the so-called "upload booster" at the beginning of February to increase the speed of internet connections for 24 million households on its cable network. The company is increasing the upload speed through the new Docsis 3.1 Low Split technology, so cable customers can receive rates of up to 75 Mbps, against a maximum 50 Mbps offered previously. The upgrade is part of a new set of broadband tariffs launching from 29 January.

German mobile operators introduce new eCall vehicular emergency call system

German network operators Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefonica Germany have introduced the Next Generation Emergency Call (NG eCall) system for cars. Unlike the previous system, NG eCall no longer uses 2G (GSM) mobile technology for emergency calls but 4G, and will eventually use 5G so that vehicle location and data will be transmitted to emergency call centres more quickly.

Disney+ has removed several premium features including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and 3D for viewers in Germany, following a patent dispute with video and AI technology research and development company InterDigital. Vodafone Germany plans to carry out 10,600 construction projects to expand and improve capacity of its mobile network over the next twelve months, with the goal of reaching 96 percent of the population with 5G by year-end. The company will also start to operate this the open RAN network, after signing contracts with Samsung and Ericsson to equip sites with the new technology. Several hundred towers will be equipped with open RAN over the year, starting first with the city of Wismar this spring.

Deutsche Telekom confirmed plans to expand its fibre-optic network to 2.5 million more households and businesses this year, after reaching 2.7 million additional addresses passed last year. Eurofiber Netz and internet service provider Amiva, a brand of Stroth Telecom, are using the open-access platform of Vitroconnect to market fibre-optic connections. Under the model, Eurofiber Netz acts as a bitstream Layer 2 provider (FTTH/FTTB), while Amiva receives the services as a bitstream Layer 3 consumer.

Telefonica Germany expands 5G to Floersbachtal, Rhede, Zeven

Telefonica Germany has expanded its 5G network to Floersbachtal, Rhede and Zeven. In Floersbachtal, in the district of Main-Kinzig district, in Rhede, and in Seven the company has upgraded mobile sites to 5G.
