Belgium relaxes limits on indoor small cells in 3.4-3.8 GHz band

Belgian regulator BIPT has relaxed the limits on small indoor base stations in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band. The maximum signal for non-AAS systems can now reach -34 dBm/MHz per antenna, compared to -50 dBm previously. The agency said this should support the development of more indoor mobile infrastructure for better coverage, and is line with recommendations from the European telecom authorities association CEPT.

Talpa Media research finds ready take-up of FAST channels in Netherlands

Several FAST channels from Talpa Media are already among the top five most watched in the Netherlands, according to research by the media company and WPP Meda. 'Lang Leve de Liefde' is viewed by a third of FAST viewers, followed by Chateau Meiland with a 30 percent share and SBS6 Classics at 28 percent. The channels BBC TopGear and BBC Earth are also in the top ten of FAST channels.

Nvidia to invest USD 2 bln in Nebius and partners on AI infrastructure

Nvidia has agreed to invest USD 2 billion in Dutch-based Nebius Group as part of a strategic partnership aimed at expanding hyperscale cloud infrastructure designed for AI workloads. The investment forms part of a broader collaboration between the companies to develop and deploy what they describe as a full-stack AI cloud platform intended for both AI-native companies and enterprise users. Nebius said the funding will support the development of its AI cloud platform and the construction of new data centres.

Glasdraad on track for 140,000 homes passed

The Dutch FTTH operator Glasdraad is on its way to reaching 140,000 homes passed with its network, following successful demand aggregation campaigns in 2025. The roll-out is progressing in several areas in Zeeland, reaching around 20,000 new addresses compared to the end of 2024, according to the annual report of its shareholder Tinc.

Proximus board member Cecile Coune proposed as new chair

Proximus has proposed Cecile Coune as its new chairperson, succeeding Stefaan De Clerck from the annual shareholders meeting 15 April. Appointed by the Belgian state as Proximus' largest shareholder, Coune is already a board member at the company since 2023. Pending formal approval by shareholders and the board, she will be the first woman to chair the Proximus board.

RTL Group said Christophe Goossens, current chief executive of RTL Luxembourg and Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE), has assumed broader duties as Head of Luxembourg Operations. The expanded role adds oversight of European News Exchange (Enex) and Media Real Estate (MRE) to his current responsibilities, with both units' managing directors now reporting directly to him. Goossens will continue to report to RTL Group CEO Thomas Rabe.

MediaMarkt introduces shopping by appointment

MediaMarkt has started offering shopping by appointment in the Netherlands. Customers can choose a dedicated time to meet a specialist in the shop and receive one-to-one advice so they can select a product faster and more in line with their needs. MediaMarkt said consumers may do research online before visiting a shop, but often they would like professional advice in-store to confirm their purchase.

GlasDraad plans expansion in Zeeland

Dutch operator Glasdraad announced plans to expand its fibre-optic network to the municipality Tholen, in Zeeland province. This would see FTTH services come to the areas Sint Philipsland, Stavenisse, Oud-Vossemeer and Scherpenisse, as well as rural farms and businesses in the area. At least 40 percent of the targeted addresses need to sign up for services for the project to go ahead, Glasdraad said.

ACM outlines focus on digital autonomy in regulatory enforcement

The Consumer & Market Authority of the Netherlands (ACM) announced an increased focus on the digital economy in its regulatory activities this year. The aim is to make digital markets more open and switching between providers easier, with users better protected and having more control over their data, supporting greater digital resilience. The vision was presented in the new document 'Focus op digitale economie 2026', which adds to the ACM's earlier published agenda for 2026.

Dutch court rejects US filmmakers' copyright claim against Ziggo

A court in the Netherlands has rejected a compensation claim from American filmmakers against the Dutch cable operator Ziggo. The court found that they had no right to claim payment for the re-transmission of their films. The case centred on whether the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and other American associations could claim such fees under the Dutch copyright law (article 45d).

Econocom names new MD for BeLux operations

Econocom has named Christophe Vanmalleghem the new managing director at its Belgium and Luxembourg operations, in a promotion from his current role as director of sales and distribution. He replaces Chantal De Vrieze, who will become chairman from 01 April. The new MD will continue the 'One Econocom' five-year growth plan at the group, while De Vrieze focuses on strengthening important institutional relationships and commercial partnerships.

Meta loses appeal against Dutch court ruling mandating algorithm-free Facebook, Instagram

Meta has lost an appeal against a Dutch court ruling requiring the social media company to offer Facebook and Instagram without personalised algorithms. The case brought by digital rights group Bits of Freedom gives users the right to set their feed on the social media sites to content only they chose to follow, without recommended posts from Meta's targeting software. The court said this option is protected by the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA) and must be made easily available to social media users.

NIBC sees infrastructure portfolio grow 8% in 2025

NIBC reported an 8 percent increase in the value of its infrastructure portfolio in 2025 to EUR 2.207 billion. This was accompanied by an increased focus on data centres, which grew to 44 percent of the portfolio from 33 percent the previous year. New investments reached EUR 546 million, including EUR 416 million for data centres and EUR 130 million for fibre networks.

Dutch court suspends govt software tender over licensing liability terms

A major IT procurement in the Netherlands has been halted by a court injunction amid concerns over the liability for eventual data breaches. According to the newspaper Financieele Dagblad, the court rejected the government's attempt to place the liability with resellers of licences for Microsoft and Oracle software. As a result, the tenders worth over EUR 3 billion were suspended.

Dutch wholesale fibre operator Glaspoort announced that it has completed its 900,000th home passed with fibre. The milestone was at a new-build area in Rijswijk, near The Hague, where offices are being converted to flats.

Dutch govt kicks off construction of photonic chips test factory in Eindhoven

The Dutch government has kicked off the construction of a new test factory for photonic chips at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. Built with support from the EU, the new site is designed to help give Europe a leading position in the emerging technology. It's built by the PIXEurope consortium and will provide space for researchers and businesses to test and develop their photonic applications at industrial scale.

Netherlands adds 249 mobile antenna sites in 2025

The number of mobile antennas in the Netherlands increased to 16,353 in 2025, a total of 249 more than a year earlier, according to the national antenna register. Most sites provide a combination of 2G, 4G and 5G (9,339) or 3G, 4G and 5G (4,931). The total number has changed little since 2020, and the Antenna bureau expects a largely stable number in 2026 as well.

Dutch operator KPN has appointed a new VP for the public sector, Fleur Hermse, to strengthen its ties with customers in the government area. KPN wants to position itself as a provider of safe, accessible, future-proof digital infrastructure, working as a strategic partner with public authorities. Areas of interest include improving resilience, cloud solitions, digital autonomy and IT simplification.
