O2 Spain hikes free cloud capacity to 10 TB

O2 Spain (Telefonica) has announced that the free cloud storage service it launched in 2023 for convergent customers is increasing its capacity from 1 TB to 10 TB at no extra charge. The upgrade is automatic for all users with access to the O2 Cloud platform, which now includes mobile-only subscribers as well as convergent customers.

Orange Spain (MasOrange) has launched a summer promo to encourage existing fibre customers to try out its premium plans at symmetric (download and upload) speeds of 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps. Under the offer, customers with XGS-PON coverage can try out both services for free for the first three months or at half the usual price for 12 months.

Berlin-based digital bank N26 has launched a mobile phone service for its customers in Spain, the company's second telecommunications market after Germany. Customers with eSIM-compatible devices can now subscribe to a mobile plan directly through the N26 app and access Orange Spain's 5G network without requiring a physical SIM card.

Simyo Spain (a MasOrange brand) has announced a new offer for subscribers wanting to set up a fibre connection in their second homes ahead of the summer season. The plan is available to existing fibre customers or postpay clients signed up to a mobile plan costing at least EUR 8.50 a month. It comes with 300 Mbps fibre broadband for EUR 15 a month, with customers able to pause the service for up to three months a year.

Spanish operator Pepephone, a MasOrange brand, has launched 24-hour telephone customer support for all subscribers, expanding from its previous schedule of 08:00 to 23:45 daily. The move follows the recent rollout of a dedicated online smartphone store and is aimed at improving service availability by ensuring customers can speak to a person at any time.

Spain's Grupo Amper has completed the acquisition of Zaragoza-based critical communications specialist Teltronic from private equity fund manager Nazca for up to EUR 225 million. The final purchase price consists of a fixed amount of EUR 155 million and a maximum earn-out of EUR 45 million, plus EUR 25 million in debt.

A European research project led by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and including Madrid-based research institute Imdea Networks is developing a security and privacy architecture for 6G mobile networks that will treat communications and environmental sensing as integrated capabilities. The PAISES-6G project brings together 18 organisations from nine countries and aims to embed AI, post-quantum cryptography and privacy-preserving techniques into 6G from the outset rather than adding protections later.

MasOrange's economic impact in Spain nears EUR 20 bln in 2025

MasOrange, the operator created following the merger between Orange Spain and Masmovil and now fully owned by France's Orange group, said it generated an economic impact of EUR 19.87 billion in Spain in 2025, up 6 percent year on year, according to the company's latest social and environmental impact report. The figure is equivalent to nearly 1.2 percent of the country's GDP and represents a return to society of more than 2.6 times the revenue generated by its activities.

Telefonica has launched a new "operator attack" offer aimed at customers of rival Digi, this time adding a Netflix subscription to a convergent plan that includes its pay-TV service, sports packages and Netflix. The premium rate normally costs EUR 135.99 a month but is being offered at a price of EUR 45 a month for the first 12 months.

Vodafone Spain revenues up 2% to EUR 915 mln in March quarter

Vodafone Spain posted its second consecutive quarter of growth in the three months to the end of March, according to figures published by UK-based telecom investment company Zegona, which finalised its acquisition of the country's third largest operator in 2024. The company reported total revenues of EUR 915 million for the quarter, up 2 percent year on year following a 1.1 percent increase in the previous quarter, with EBITDAaL growing 16 percent to EUR 363 million.

Over 6 in 10 Spaniards would switch ISPs for guaranteed stability - study

A nationwide survey commissioned by internet exchange operator De-Cix found that 61 percent of Spaniards would switch or consider switching internet providers if guaranteed a completely stable connection. Conducted by Netquest, the study also showed that 20 percent of respondents would pay extra for a "No Delay Guarantee", while 88 percent said poor or unstable service would be a decisive or significant reason to change providers.

Iren completes Nostrum acquisition to expand European AI presence

Australian AI infrastructure company Iren has completed its acquisition of Spanish data centre developer Ingenostrum, marking its entry into the European market. The acquisition adds approximately 490 MW of secured, grid-connected power capacity in Spain, along with an additional development pipeline. Iren said the transaction also brings a team of more than 50 employees covering development, engineering, construction and operations.

Vodafone Spain cuts price of international roaming bundles

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) has refreshed its international roaming offer, cutting prices by 50 to 60 percent in several countries and introducing new bundles. The dedicated bundles start at EUR 3 a day for 3GB in the US, Hawaii and Alaska, while customers travelling to Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Egypt, Thailand, Qatar and up to 25 destinations can now access 1GB for EUR 3 a day, down from EUR 10 in most cases.

Orange Spain (MasOrange) has announced the addition of a dedicated pop-up channel with a carefully curated selection of science-fiction content from AMC to coincide with the premiere of Steven Spielberg new film "The Day of Revelation". The exclusive 'Territorio Ovni' channel will feature documentaries, series and films aimed at fans of the UFO phenomenon.

Telefonica's digital business unit Telefonica Tech has secured a contract to digitise the water cycle in Spain's Castilla y Leon region. The 10-year deal awarded by regional infrastructure agency SOMACYL covers the replacement of manual meter readings with automated, secure remote monitoring to improve efficiency in water distribution and resource use.

Orange Spain 'Key Plays' feature launched on all devices

Orange Spain (MasOrange) announced ahead of the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup that its "Jugadas Clave" ("Key Plays") feature is now available on all Orange TV compatible devices. Debuted at the start of the year, the tool allows viewers to replay key moments from live football matches directly on their screens without interrupting the main feed. Users can review events like fouls, saves and goals alongside real-time statistics for greater interactivity with their favourite teams and players.

Spanish AI robotics startup Theker raises EUR 73 mln from CRV, Samsung, LVMH

Barcelona-based AI robotics startup Theker has raised EUR 73 million in a Series A funding round led by US venture capital firm CRV, with participation from Samsung and French luxury group LVMH. Founded in 2022 by engineers Jiaqiang Ye Zhu and Carla Gómez, Theker develops robots powered by artificial intelligence, computer vision and deep learning to automate tasks in industrial environments.

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) said it has joined the Spanish Federation of Women Directors, Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs (FEDEPE) as a corporate partner to strengthen its commitment to promoting gender equality and female talent in the workplace. The agreement establishes a framework for joint initiatives to increase women's participation across business sectors, highlight female role models and support entrepreneurship, while fostering more inclusive and competitive work environments.

MasOrange adds La 1 UHD to pay-TV platforms

MasOrange has become the latest Spanish operator to offer the 4K version of RTVE's main DTT channel La 1 to customers signed up to the TV platforms of its main brands. La 1 UHD will be available to Orange TV, Jazztel TV, PepeTV, MasMovil TV, Yoigo TV and Simyo TV subscribers with a 4K-compatible television.

Starlink adds EUR 10 'monthly kit fee' to Spain prices

Starlink has further increased the price of its three residential plans in Spain in response to rising global operating costs and surging demand for its service. The satellite internet operator announced on its website that new subscribers to its Residential 100, 200 and Max plans will now have to pay a "Monthly Kit Fee" amounting to EUR 10 a month when signing up.

Spanish operator Euskaltel (MasOrange) has signed a collaboration agreement with Bizkaia-based business association Cebek to boost digital skills and technological training among workers and companies in the Basque region. The initiative aims to help the local workforce adapt to a labour market increasingly shaped by digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

MasOrange 5G coverage tops 93% of Spanish population

Spanish operator MasOrange has expanded its 5G network to cover 93.4 percent of the population, reaching a total of 5,247 municipalities. Over the past 18 months, the company has introduced 5G services in more than 1,500 new locations, aiming to extend high-speed connectivity nationwide.
