Lowi adds Dazn to convergent plans

Vodafone Spain's low-cost brand Lowi has further enhanced its convergent offer by adding two of Dazn's packages to its streaming options. Customers can now choose to include the Dazn Futbol plan with access to five games per matchday from LaLiga EA Sports, all games from the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue and LaLiga Hypermotion as well as the top ten matches from the third-tier Primera Federación.

Libelium adds ISO 42001 certification to AI governance systems

Spanish IoT specialist Libelium said it has obtained ISO/IEC 42001 certification, the first international standard for the ethical and responsible management of artificial intelligence. The accreditation expands the company's existing portfolio of certifications covering cybersecurity, software quality and urban platforms, and reinforces the trust model of iris360, its data governance and intelligence platform.

Telefonica Spain renews criminal compliance, anti-bribery certifications

Telefonica Spain confirmed the renewal of its UNE 19601:2025 criminal prevention management and ISO 37001:2025 anti-bribery management certifications with EQA, an international certification, inspection and verification body accredited by Spain's National Accreditation Entity. The renewal makes Telefonica one of the first companies in Spain's telecommunications sector to adapt its compliance systems to regulatory updates introduced in 2025.

Spanish regional operator R (MasOrange) said it has agreed to become the official sponsor of Real Club Deportivo for the 2026-27 season, the La Coruña-based team's first in the top-flight La Liga since 2018. Under the deal, R will have a presence on the advertising boards and the LED ring at the Abanca-Riazor stadium during home matches as well as on the video scoreboard.

MasOrange mulls keeping Huawei or adding Nokia and Samsung as network suppliers - report

MasOrange, the telecommunications group created following the merger between Orange Spain and Masmovil, is reconsidering its mobile network supplier strategy, opening the door to retaining Huawei or bringing in Nokia or Samsung as additional vendors, according to unnamed sources cited by Expansion. The shift casts doubt on a July 2024 agreement that had planned to phase out Chinese equipment and transition the network entirely to Sweden's Ericsson by 2029.

Digi Spain has announced a special campaign to expand the availability of its latest Wi-Fi 7 router to longtime customers. The device is currently delivered to all new customers who sign up to the operator's faster fibre plans but can now be requested by all existing users subscribed to fibre rates at speeds of 750 Mbps, 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps, while those with 500 Mbps can request an upgrade to the Wi-Fi 6 version.

Spanish investment funds Inveready and Global Portfolio Investments, the holding company of fashion brand Mayoral, have taken majority control of Catalan MVNO Parlem following a debt restructuring deal. A general shareholders' meeting approved all of the board's proposals, including a EUR 17.5 million debt-for-equity conversion that left Inveready's stake at 49 percent and a EUR 7.95 million capital hike that meant Mayoral retained a 20 percent stake.

Amazon Leo inks official distribution deal with Spain's Ibsat

Spanish satellite connectivity provider Ibsat, a subsidiary of Bluetel Wireless, has signed an agreement to serve as an authorised distributor of Amazon Leo services throughout Spain and Portugal. Under the deal, Ibsat will act as an official reseller of Amazon Leo's satellite internet to the more than 80 local ISPs and agents that are part of its ecosystem in the Iberian peninsula.

Avatel adds second and third-tier football games to TV offer

Spanish rural telecommunications provider Avatel has become the latest operator to reach a deal with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to air games from the country's second and third-tier leagues, now known as LaLiga Hypermotion and Primera Federación. Starting 14 August (LaLiga Hypermotion) and 28 August (Primera Federación) customers will be able to watch games from the two competitions by signing up to a EUR 5.99 a month dedicated package.

Digi Spain introduces scam call detection feature

Digi Spain has followed rivals including Movistar, O2, Orange and Simyo by announcing the introduction of a new service designed to protect them from telephone spam calls. The free feature adds an extra layer in the identification and notification of nuisance or fraudulent calls by flashing up the message "Possible spam" when the operator's network identifies a call that has been reported as spam.

Dazn said it has extended its exclusive broadcast rights to the English Premier League in Spain and Portugal until the end of the 2030-31 season. The agreement prolongs the current deal, which was due to expire in mid-2028, by three seasons.

MasOrange brand Pepephone has continued revamping the conditions of its mobile range by announcing a substantial increase in bundled data to its entry-level plan at no extra cost. The latest refresh means Pepephone's EUR 7 a month rate now comes with 50GB of data (up from 30GB).

Spain consults on single infrastructure portal to speed fibre rollout

The Spanish government has launched a public consultation on a new single information point designed to speed up fibre deployments by giving operators a central web portal with real-time access to planned public works and infrastructure projects. The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration said the measure should cut installation times, lower costs and help extend fibre networks to more parts of the country faster and more efficiently.

Telefonica upgrades network at 2,700 sites ahead of eclipse

Telefonica said it is strengthening its mobile network at more than 2,700 sites across 31 provinces to handle extra traffic for a solar eclipse visible in parts of Spain on 12 August. The operator started planning the upgrades five months ago after analysing coverage at more than 400 observation points notified by regional authorities.

Cellnex boosts network readiness for solar eclipse

Cellnex Telecom announced plans to reinforce monitoring and maintain backup protocols across its infrastructure in Spain and Portugal to help ensure network continuity during the total solar eclipse on 12 August. The event, which will be visible across much of the Iberian Peninsula, is expected to draw crowds to rural, inland and coastal viewing spots and could substantially boost mobile traffic.

Bending Spoons opens Madrid office

Italian technology company Bending Spoons has opened an office in Madrid, its third European base after Milan and London. The firm, which owns brands including AOL, Eventbrite, Vimeo, WeTransfer and Meetup, said it has been receiving about 10,000 Spain-based applicants a month and expects to grow its Madrid team into the hundreds over the next few years.

Telefonica awarded Guadalajara video surveillance contract

Telefonica has won a contract from Guadalajara's provincial council to build a rural video surveillance network across 170 towns in Castilla La Mancha, reports Expansion. The two-year project worth almost EUR 4.5 million will add more than 350 camera points to support local Guardia Civil units in preventing and investigating crime.

Simyo Spain ups convergent data by up to 50GB

Simyo Spain (MasOrange) has followed a recent speed hike on its convergent plans by temporarily increasing the data bundled with its fibre and mobile rates by up to 50GB. As a result, those on plans with 50GB of data will receive 100GB while those on 120GB tariffs will receive 150GB for the same price.

Euskaltel readies network for 12 August eclipse

Spanish operator Euskaltel (Masorange) has activated special network monitoring in the Basque Country and Navarre ahead of the 12 August total solar eclipse, the first total event visible in the region since 1912. The operator said it is applying high-traffic network settings to improve capacity and traffic management in parts of Alava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Navarre where the phenomenon will be visible.

Santander debuts travel eSIM service in Spain

Spanish bank Santander has followed rival financial services providers such as Revolut and N26 with the launch of a dedicated travel eSIM service for its customers, in partnership with international digital connectivity specialist Gigs. The Santander eSIM is available in 3 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB, 20 GB and 50 GB data packages and can be used in 160 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Turkey, Japan, Brazil and Thailand.

Digi Spain tops 1 mln ported lines in year to date

Digi Spain said it exceeded the milestone of 1 million lines through number porting in the first seven months of 2026, up 15 percent from the same period a year earlier. In total, the operator recorded more than 1,049,800 ported numbers in the January to July period, including over 119,000 mobile lines and 19,800 fixed ones in July alone, the 23 straight month with more than 100,000 line changes, dating back to September 2024.

Spain to begin UHD DTT switch on 05 November

Spain will finally begin migrating its digital terrestrial television (DTT) channels to Ultra HD (UHD) from 05 November, the Ministry for Digital Transformation confirmed in the Official State Gazette. The move will require viewers to retune their televisions on the same date to access the upgraded broadcasts.
