Dazn to air MotoGP in Spain until 2030, acquires Portugal rights

Live sports streaming service Dazn has renewed the rights to air MotoGP races in Spain until 2030 and acquired rights to broadcast them in Portugal until 2031. The deal means Dazn will offer exclusive coverage across the Iberian peninsula for all practices, qualifying sessions, Tissot Sprints and Grand Prix races for MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3, both live and on-demand.

Spanish telecom service revenues down 3% to EUR 5.64 bln in Q1

Total service revenues for the Spanish telecommunication and audiovisual retail sector fell to EUR 5.64 billion in the first quarter of 2026, down 2.9 percent year on year, according to the latest report from communications regulator CNMC. The result was helped by an 17.8 percent annual surge in mobile broadband traffic, with 5G now accounting for 23 percent of the total.

Vodafone Spain said its business unit Vodafone Empresas has deployed a unified access control platform for Ports IB with a view to digitising physical security across 13 ports in the Balearic Island. The centrally managed platform provides a consolidated view of operations while maintaining local autonomy at each facility, improving security, reducing incidents and streamlining access management in a complex port environment, said the operator.

Movistar leads Spain mobile network ranking

Movistar (Telefonica) provided the fastest average 4G and 5G mobile speeds among Spain's leading operators in the first quarter, according to data from communications regulator CNMC corresponding to the first quarter of 2026. The watchdog's service quality report said Movistar provided average 4G speeds of 55 Mbps in the first three months of the year, just ahead of Orange with 54 Mbps, Digi with 45 Mbps and Vodafone with 44 Mbps.

Boldyn Networks said it has collaborated with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) to deploy a secure, high-performance private network supporting the university's new 6G LabNet platform. The infrastructure connects two campuses via 32 km of fibre-optic cable and combines advanced 5G and fibre technologies to enable real-world testing of next-generation connectivity systems.

MasOrange latest to change network name to support national team

MasOrange has followed Telefonica in temporarily changing the name of its mobile network in response to Spain's qualification for the final of the 2026 World Cup. Instead of the usual "Orange" network name, customers can now see the text "TodoUnEquipo" ("AllOneTeam") on the status bar of their mobile phones to mark the operator's support for Spain's football team, which has qualified for the World Cup Final on 19 July.

MasOrange said it has carried out nearly 3,000 upgrades to its mobile network in Spanish localities that see sharp summer population increases, with a view to maintaining service quality and capacity during peak seasonal demand in coastal and holiday areas. The operator completed more than 1,400 interventions on its 5G network and over 1,300 on 4G, including base station optimisation, network densification and the addition of new frequency bands.

Telefonica targets 90% emissions cut by 2030 under new sustainability plan

Telefonica has approved a Global Sustainability Plan for 2026-2030 to support growth, improve efficiency and strengthen risk management, while targeting a 90 percent reduction in direct emissions by 2030. The plan, embedded within the Transform & Grow strategy unveiled in November, describes sustainability as a core driver of the group's competitiveness amid increasing global competition, technological change and geopolitical uncertainty.

Romania's Digi said its Spanish unit will begin trading on the Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid and Valencia stock exchanges on 16 July at an initial public offering price of EUR 5.60 per share, as previously outlined in its prospectus. In a statement to stock market regulator CNMV, Digi said the share sale was multiple times oversubscribed, drawing strong demand from both international and domestic institutional investors.

Vodafone Spain revenues up 2% to EUR 916 mln in June quarter

Vodafone Spain achieved its third straight quarter of growth in the three months to the end of June, according to figures published by UK-based telecom investment company Zegona, which finalised its acquisition of the country's third largest operator in 2024. The company reported total revenues of EUR 916 million for the quarter, up 2 percent on the year-earlier result of EUR 895 million following similar increases of 2 percent and 1.1 percent in the previous two quarters.

Spanish police bust EUR 1.1 mln smartphone theft ring

Spain's National Police and Catalonia's Mossos d'Esquadra said they have dismantled a criminal network that fraudulently obtained high-end smartphones by impersonating Telefonica customers and intercepting deliveries with the help of courier drivers. The investigation began after the operator filed a complaint in November 2025, flagging a pattern of fraudulent contracts opened using customers' personal data obtained through social engineering.

Telefonica to air Primera Federacion games on Movistar Plus

Telefonica has reached an agreement to continue airing Spain's Primera Federacion competition during the 2026/27 season. Under the deal, the operator will broadcast the 10 most important live games from each matchday of the regular season on its Movistar Plus platform, together with the promotion play-offs. The Primera Federacion is Spain's third tier of professional football and features a mix of established clubs, reserve teams and emerging sides competing for promotion.

Spanish operator Jazztel, a MasOrange brand, has announced that all new and existing subscribers with a mobile plan will be able to access a one-off 50GB data bundle to be used throughout the summer. Under the tagline "Mas Datos. Mas Verano. Mas Disfrute" ("More Data. More Summer. More Enjoyment"), the operator is inviting customers to activate the bonus data by 31 August via the Jazztel app, desktop area or WhatsApp.

Telefonica Spain has secured a contract to upgrade digital radio communications networks at ten airports operated by Spanish airport authority Aena, together with the Amper Group. The project will serve to strengthen critical infrastructure resilience and operational coordination at the airports said the partners in a joint statement.

Digi Spain to sponsor Albacete football club next season

Spanish MVNO Digi Mobil, a subsidiary of Romania's Digi Communications Group, has announced its third sports sponsorship deal of the week, this time agreeing to become an official sponsor of La Liga Hypermotion football team throughout the 2026-2027 season. Under the agreement, Digi's logo will appear on the front of the first team's jersey, as well as on the back of the reserve team's shirt and on all the boys' youth teams.

Telefonica Tech, the digital business unit of Telefonica, has partnered with Thales to launch a global eSIM offering based on the GSMA SGP.32 standard, enabling businesses to use a single card with profiles from multiple mobile operators. The service is designed to support international IoT deployments by allowing customers to manage connectivity across different geographies through a unified framework.

MasOrange brings 5G to 97% of Galicia's population

Spanish operator MasOrange and its local brand R said 97 percent of the population of Galicia is now covered by its 5G network following the completion of its rural rollout in the northwestern region. The aim was to bring 5G coverage to 80 percent of Galicia's territory, where only 20 percent of the population lives, said MasOrange, adding that fifth-generation connectivity is now available in 245 areas of the region with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants.

Digi Spain sets IPO price at EUR 5.60, targets EUR 1.66 bln valuation

Digi has confirmed an IPO price of EUR 5.60 per share for the imminent IPO of its Spanish business, valuing the company at EUR 1.662 billion after a previously announced capital increase. Following the listing, which is expected to take place by mid-July, Digi Spain will trade under the ticker DIGIS.

Spain's Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Administration has invested EUR 1.5 million euros in Madrid-based satellite startup Fossa Systems, with funding channelled through the state-backed Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), launched in 2024 to oversee strategic technological investments.

Spanish e-commerce sales up over 20% to EUR 115 bln in 2025

E-commerce revenues in Spain climbed again to EUR 31.4 billion in the final quarter of 2025, up over 22 percent year on year, according to the latest data from market regulator CNMC. On annual basis, online spend rose 20.6 percent year on year to over EUR 114.8 billion in 2025 as a whole compared to EUR 95 billion in 2024 and EUR 84 billion in 2023.
