European vendors step up advocacy to address internet router security risks

Four European internet router suppliers have joined forces to establish SAFENet, an alliance advocating for European self-reliance in their target market. Fritz!, Devolo, Lancom and TDT will collaborate to foster dialogue with European policymakers and users, aiming to highlight potential measures to make routers more secure and stamp out risks which it believes are linked to foreign manufacturers.

Samsung UK has launched a summer cashback promotion offering up to GBP 300 cashback on purchases of selected Galaxy products. CableLabs, a nonprofit R&D group for the cable industry and other broadband vendors, has sanctioned additional cable modems from GemTek, Hitron, MaxLinear, Sagemcom, Ubee and Sercomm as meeting its Docsis 3.1 interoperability specification. The Docsis 3.1 Verified for Interoperability (VFI) programme is considered a stepping stone to CableLabs' full Docsis 4.0 certification. It is intended to demonstrate multi-vendor interoperability on contemporary cable broadband infrastructures.

Neterra cuts Starlink terminal prices by up to 80% across 156 territories

Neterra, an authorized reseller of Starlink by SpaceX, has announced price reductions across its portfolio of Starlink satellite terminals. Starlink terminals are now available for purchase in 156 territories worldwide. Neterra reports that customers in 129 territories can benefit from discounts exceeding 15 percent, while 99 territories can now access reductions ranging from 50 percent to 80 percent on selected products.

Russian mobile and electronics retail chain M.Video said it has started selling new Android 16-powered tablets from Belarusian company Horizont in its shops. The items in question are the H-TAB Mini at RUB 10,099, the H-TAB Go at RUB 13,599 and the H-TAB Crystal at RUB 16,099. M.Video open its first in-store concession offering electronics and household appliances from Belarusian vendors last September. NTT Docomo to trial mixed reality tech linking physical and virtual spaces

NTT Docomo will begin a public trial of its mixed reality (MR) technology, World Link Door, at Japan's National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) from July 2026. The technology, developed jointly with Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), enables users wearing an MR headset to move between physical and virtual environments by passing through a real-world door. The trial was selected as part of Miraikan's Future Creation Lab demonstration programme.

Smart TVs dominate Portuguese streaming

The 'BStream' study by Marktest reveals that 2.9 million mainland Portuguese residents over the age of 15 years old (33.2% of the demographic) primarily access streaming services via "smart" television sets. This indicates that roughly one in three Portuguese people streams content on a smart TV. However, viewing habits differ among younger demographics, with those aged 15-24, preferring mobile apps slightly (53.8%) for streaming rather than smart TVs (53.2%).

Almost 70% of Russian homes use outdated routers

68.2 percent of routers installed in residences of Russian citizens work on the 2.4 GHz band only, reports Rbc.ru citing a study from the company Vigo. A significant part of the end-user devices are obsolete. A share of the Wi-Fi traffic has reached the threshold of 65 percent of the whole Russian internet traffic, it has grown by 6 percentage points from the end of 2025.

Telefonica said it reused and recycled around 4 million devices in 2025 as a whole, accounting for 95 percent of the waste it generated. NTT Docomo has begun selling smartphone glass screen protectors bundled with screen damage insurance, which the operator said claimed was the first offering of its kind from a mobile operator in Japan. The products are available from 9 June through Docomo shops and the operator's online store. The insurance is available to customers subscribed to Docomo's Smart Anshin Hosho device protection service and covers smartphone screen repair or replacement costs of up to JPY 10,000 per claim.
