Russian company Catalytic People, a joint venture of T-Technologies and Interros, acquired a 25 percent stake in the data centre and cloud services provider Selectel, reports Kommersant. The deal is worth around RUB 16 billion, and the shares were acquired from existing shareholders of Selectel.

Mexico's new Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT) said it has begun holding dialogue sessions with the business community to discuss plans to allocate radio spectrum for dedicated industrial use. A few days after announcing plans to free up the 600 MHz band for 5G use, the watchdog said it is considering spectrum in the 2.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands with a view to helping companies automate critical production processes and provide advanced digital infrastructure services, while reducing costs.

Meta sets out US nuclear power agreements to support data centre growth

Meta has announced a series of agreements to support existing and new nuclear power projects in the United States, with the aim of securing long-term electricity supply for its data centre and AI infrastructure. The company said the projects could support up to 6.6 GW of new and existing nuclear capacity by 2035, supplying grids that serve Meta's operations, including its Prometheus data centre cluster in New Albany, Ohio.

France's environment agency Ademe has published a study on electricity consumption by data centres, including forecasts on how this demand could evolve in the medium to long term under different scenarios. Among the key findings, the study shows that the electricity needs of French data centres amounted to 9.91 TWh in 2024. This could rise to 36.73 TWh by 2035 and 63.58 TWh by 2060 under the trend-based scenario.

OpenMetal announced that cloud provider RamNode has modernized its Netherlands data centre operations using OpenMetal's enterprise bare metal platform. The migration to the new infrastructure resulted in around 70 percent lower costs and a 16-fold increase in virtual machine density. RamNode is now considering a similar deployment in other locations, including Singapore, the supplier said.

Samsung SDS has signed an MoU with Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and the city of Gumi to build a large-scale AI data centre in South Korea. Under the agreement, Samsung SDS plans to construct a 60 MW AI data centre in Gumi on the site of the former Samsung Electronics Gumi 1 complex, which the company acquired in December 2024. The facility is scheduled to begin operations in March 2029 and is intended to support growing demand for AI- and GPU-focused services.

Shinmei Group has decided to introduce an AI-driven automation service for produce allocation operations across its group companies, following successful trials conducted by NTT AI-CIX. The service automates allocation tasks at wholesale produce markets, where incoming goods are divided and assigned to buyers such as supermarkets and retailers. Econet InfraCo plans industrial park and data centre near Robert Mugabe Airport

Econet InfraCo, the infrastructure company being spun out of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, is set to develop a 300-hectare industrial park near Robert Mugabe International Airport in Harare, NewsDay reported. Fringe Infrastructure, a Nigerian-based data centre operator, has opened its first facility in Ikoyi, Lagos State, Nigeria.
