Hong Kong loses more than 3,000 fixed-line subscribers in February

Hong Kong lost 3,164 fixed-line subscribers in February, ending the year with 1.696 million users. The total includes 670,801 residential fixed-lines and 1.025 million business lines. The number of non-exchange lines (which includes IP telephone and fixed wireless services) was stable month-on-month at 1.354 million, according to figures from the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA). The number of leased lines decreased to 136,302 in February 2026 from 136,874 in January.

Russian B2B customers made 1.57 billion voice calls in 2025, up by 16.5 percent year-on-year, reports Vedomosti citing a study by research service Skorozvon. The figure for 2024 was 1.35 billion calls. The study is based on anonymised data from 3,000 companies located in fifteen regions.

BDUK delivers broadband coverage to 192,570 premises in FY15/26

The Building Digital UK (BDUK) programme delivered gigabit-capable broadband coverage to 192,570 premises between 01 April 2025 and 31 March 2026 (2025/26), up up 28 percent or 42,280 premises from the previous financial year. To date, BDUK projects have provided gigabit-capable broadband coverage to a total of 1.42 million premises. The data was provided in the latest annual BDUK Delivery Performance update from the UK government.

Private mobile networks top 2,000, with manufacturing leading the way - research

Private mobile networks with an estimated contract value of at least EUR 100,000 were in operation at 2,003 organisations at the end of March, according to the GSA's latest Private Mobile Networks report. Private cellular deployments were tracked in 88 countries. Manufacturing remains the biggest sector in terms of quantities, followed by education, academic research, and mining. The GSA reports that private 5G adoption has accelerated, accounting for over 50 percent of deployments disclosed since 2022.

A majority of communication service providers (CSPs) polled by TM Forum are forging ahead with sovereign AI projects, though a full consensus is yet to emerge on the right approach. The figures, published ahead of TM Forum's flagship DTW Ignite event, indicate 77 percent of the panel had commercial leads lined up to monetise sovereign AI and related capabilities, targeting strict performance criteria such as governance, infrastructure autonomy and data sovereignty.

The total number of FTTP subscriber lines in Ireland reached 1.09 million in Q1 2026, to account for 62 percent of all fixed broadband subscriber lines, according to the latest quarterly communications market data from regulator ComReg. Total fixed broadband subscriber lines reached 1.77 million, up 4 percent from Q1 2025. FTTP is available to 86 percent of all Irish premises, with gigabit broadband available to 91 percent.

The number of FTTP connections across mainland France and the overseas territories reached 27.68 million at end-March, or nearly 84 percent of the fixed broadband installed base, according to telecom regulator Arcep. This represents a net increase of nearly 600,000 since end-December, down from approximately 740,000 both in the previous quarter and in the year-earlier period. The fibre take-up rate remained on a gradual upward trend, with 65 percent of end-users able to access FTTP services opting to do so,

GSMA says mobile sector effect on GDP rises 14% in 2025

The effect of the mobile industry on the EU's GDP increased by 14 percent in 2025 to EUR 1.15 trillion, according to 'The Mobile Economy Europe 2026' report from the GSMA. The report finds that Europe's mobile sector now directly accounts for 6.1 percent, up from 5.5 percent or a EUR 1.01 trillion contribution in 2024. It said that EUR 820 billion came from productivity, as using mobile phones and mobile internet apps made obtaining information more efficient, and accelerated processes and communications.

Broadband is only UK utility to have dropped in price since 2016 - study

Broadband is the only UK utility bill not to have risen over the last 10 years, according to new research from Broadband Genie. The average cost of a new broadband contract is currently GBP 22.63, down 10 percent from an average monthly cost of GBP 25.19 in 2016. For ultrafast broadband services, the average cost has dropped 43 percent to GBP 39.65 per month. By comparison, water bills have risen by 69 percent over the last 10 years, with gas/electricity prices increasing by 82 percent.

Latest figures from Dell'Oro Group put global turnover from broadband access equipment up 2 percent year on year to USD 4.4 billion in the first quarter of 2026. France closed March with 2 million SIMs active in 2G-only devices, down from 2.4 million at the end of 2025, according to telecom authority Arcep. The finding is part of the regulator's quarterly update on the migration away from the early generations of mobile networks. SIMs in 2G-only devices accounted for 1.5 percent of the total active base supporting voice, messaging and data services, while representing 3 percent of the M2M installed base.

O2 Slovakia saw the most customers connect to its network in the first quarter of this year through number porting, according to figures collected by Zive.sk. It said O2 gained 2,815 telephone numbers via number portability. Slovak Telekom had a net gain of 1,525 telephone numbers in Q1. Orange Slovakia lost 2,351 telephone numbers through porting, and 4ka lost 1,974 numbers.
