Peruvians port nearly 6.7 mln lines in 2025

A total of 6.69 million Peruvian mobile users ported their phone number in 2025 as a whole, up 5.4 percent year on year and the highest figure in six years, according to the latest data from telecom regulator Osiptel. Ported postpay lines came to 4.75 million in 2025, accounting for over two-thirds (71.1%) of the total.

Egypt's mobile phone subscription rise 9% in Q3

The number of mobile phone subscriptions in Egypt increased by 8.75 percent year on year to 120.85 million in September 2025 from 111.12 million in 2024, according to statistics from the ICT ministry. Mobile penetration rose to 109.22 percent from 102.14 percent, up by 7.08 percentage points.

Brits hoard 49 million old games consoles, worth GBP 4.14 billion

New research from Virgin Media O2 shows that Brits are hoarding around 49 million old gaming consoles at home, worth a total of GBP 4.14 billion. This increase follows a Christmas gaming gift book, with Virgin Media O2 reporting a 170 jump in Nintendo Switch console and a 5 percent increase in Xbox sales. With almost three quarters (71%) of Brits struggling for cash in January, games could earn an average of GBP 145 by trading in their old consoles through O2 Recycle.

Telekom Slovenije leads fixed broadband speeds in nPerf tests

Telekom Slovenije performed the best in nPerf's annual survey of fixed-line internet providers in 2025, achieving 134,351 nPoints thanks to a download speed of 291.3 Mbps and an upload speed of 118.1 Mbps. T-2 placed second with 131,085 nPoints, resulting from speeds of 262.6/130.6 Mbps, ahead of Telemach with 219.3/71.5 Mbps and A1 with 143.4/48.2 Mbps. The tests were carried out from 1 January to 31 December 2025.

Only 6% of Portuguese households rely on DTT

Only 6.3 percent of households in Portugal exclusively relied on digital terrestrial television (DTT) for free access to national TV channels in 2025, marking a 1.1 percentage point decrease from the previous year, according to research by Portugal's National Communications Authority (Anacom). While 89.2 percent of primary residences had a TV, DTT usage (not necessarily exclusive) in these homes dropped to 22.7 percent, its lowest point since data collection began in 2016. Global PC shipments up 9% in 2025 as supply constraints cloud 2026 outlook

Global PC shipments rose 9 percent in 2025 to 279.5 million units, driven by a strong fourth-quarter performance, according to new data from Omdia. Total shipments grew 10.1 percent year-on-year to 75 million units in the October to December period, as both notebooks and desktops recorded solid gains. Notebook shipments for the year climbed 8.0 percent to 220.4 million units, while desktops grew faster at 14.4 percent, reaching 59 million units.

Spanish e-commerce sales hit record EUR 28.3 bln in Q2

The Spanish e-commerce market continued posting double-digit growth in the second quarter of 2025, reaching record sales of EUR 28.3 billion, up 22.6 percent year on year, according to the latest data from market regulator CNMC. The total number of transactions also climbed, by 16.8 percent, to more than 493 million.

TV viewing time in the Netherlands reached a seasonal peak in December, but was still down 5 percent year-on-year, figures from the NMO show. Average daily time watching the main TV in the home was 211 minutes per day, including 130 minutes for linear TV (-6%) and 81 minutes for VOD services (-5%).

Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple lead Play bestsellers list in 2025

Polish operator Play, controlled by Iliad, announced the best-selling smartphones in its shops in 2025. The top sellers, in alphabetical order, were the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, Samsung Galaxy A36 5G, Samsung Galaxy A56 5G, Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G. Among premium devices (also in alphabetical order) the bestsellers were the Apple iPhone 15 128 GB, Apple iPhone 16 128 GB, Apple iPhone 16 Pro 128 GB, Samsung Galaxy S24 FE 5G 128 GB and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra 5G 256 GB.

T-Mobile leads Polish fixed and mobile internet speeds in 2025 - Speedtest.pl

T-Mobile Poland supplied the fastest fixed broadband, mobile internet and 5G speeds the country in 2025, according to a study from Speedtest.pl. Orange Poland provided the quickest service on FTTH networks.

Vodafone has more active SIMs than One Albania in Q3

In the third quarter of 2025, Albania saw a 3.8 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in active mobile SIM cards, reaching 3.39 million, but a 10.2 percent drop compared with the same period in 2024. Vodafone Albania reported 1.70 million users, surpassing One Albania with 1.68 million, according to data from telecom regulator Akep.

FRANCE 9 JAN

French data centres could see 3.7-fold increase in energy use by 2035 – study

France's environment agency Ademe has published a study on electricity consumption by data centres, including forecasts on how this demand could evolve in the medium to long term under different scenarios. Among the key findings, the study shows that the electricity needs of French data centres amounted to 9.91 TWh in 2024. This could rise to 36.73 TWh by 2035 and 63.58 TWh by 2060 under the trend-based scenario.

French operators step up pace of 5G activations in December

The footprint of 5G cell sites emitting a signal across mainland France increased by 757 during December, reaching 45,955 as of 01 January, according to spectrum agency ANFR. This monthly increase was up from 445 in November and 701 in the year-earlier period. All four network operators accelerated the pace of 5G site activations, led by Orange with 521 additional sites across the 700 MHz, 2.1 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands.

Italian retail sales rise again in November, e-commerce up 4.6%

Italy's retail sales climbed 0.5 percent in value and 0.6 percent in volume in November, following the previous month's similar rise, according to the latest preliminary data from national statistics office Istat. Cosmetic and toilet articles (+5.9%) increased the highest in November, while the steepest decline was seen in other goods (-0.4%).

BELGIUM 9 JAN

Belgian VO market grows less than 1% amid increased competition

Virtual mobile operators in Belgium showed limited growth in customer numbers in the past year, amid increased competition from newcomer Digi. The latest research by Telecompaper shows the total VO market, including independent MVNOs and second brands owned by mobile operators, accounted for almost 2.7 million Sims in Belgium at the end of Q3 2025, an increase of just 0.8 percent year-on-year.

Polish ICT market expands nearly 4% in 2025

The Polish ICT market was worth an estimated PLN 131 billion in 2025, according to a report from PMR Market Experts/ Hume's Institute. The market researchers estimates the market grew by almost 4 percent year-on-year, supported by public sector spending, a recovery in private demand and accelerating business investment. The number of companies working in the ICT field exceeded 200,000, more than doubling since 2019 on the ongoing digital transformation.

Hong Kong passes 32 mln mobile lines in September, over 1 mln M2M connections

Hong Kong passed 32.3 million mobile lines in September, an increase of around 870,000 lines from the previous month, according to the latest figures from the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA). Most of the growth was in the prepaid market, which counted 21.8 million Sims in September. 4G was still the dominant technology, with 22.7 million users, while the 5G base increased slightly to almost 9.6 million. 

HUNGARY 8 JAN

Magyar Telekom and Digi named best for fixed internet in Hungary

nPerf released its 2025 annual report on fixed-line internet service providers in Hungary showing that Magyar Telekom and Digi offered the best performance to customers. Magyar Telekom offered an average speed of 314.5 Mbps in download and 213.3 Mbps in upload, while Digi provided 288.3 Mbps and 152.4 Mbps. One placed third (262.3 Mbps/40.8 Mbps), followed by Yettel (91.5 Mbps/23.5 Mbps).

UK music, video and gaming sales top GBP 13 bln on 7% growth in 2025

UK streaming and retail sales of music, video and computer games rose 7.1 percent annually to a record GBP 13.26 billion in 2025, according to the latest estimates from ERA, the national association for entertainment retailers. The growth rate was over double the 3.3 percent reported in ERA's 2024 figures, amid a strong recovery in gaming and continued growth in video and music. The increase was also more than four times faster than the UK's overall GDP economic growth forecast from the Office for Budget Re
