Norwegian National Security Authority warns of risks of foreign cloud services, vulnerability to Russian sabotage

The Norwegian National Security Authority (NSM) has published its 'Risk 2026' report, which among other things warns that businesses using foreign cloud services give up some of their control over digital infrastructure, systems and data stored and processed in the cloud. It also says the police security service PST has said that Russian intelligence could benefit from carrying out sabotage operations against targets in Norway in 2026.

DDoS attack frequency in 2025 increased 121 percent year-on-year to 47.1 million incidents, says Cloudflare in its latest quarterly report. DDoS attacks spiked 236 percent between 2023 and 2025, surging from 14 million two years ago. On average Cloudflare recorded 5,376 DDoS attacks every hour, comprising 3,925 breaches at network layer and 1,451 HTTP-driven DDoS events. Fortinet reported annual revenues up 14 percent to USD 6.8 billion in 2025, beating its forecast thanks to strong billings in the final quarter of the year. Swedish telecoms operator Bredband2 said it is backing research funded by the Civil Contingencies Agency MCF (formerly the MSB) into how human behaviour, attitudes and people's knowledge affect digital security in society.
