Telia Estonia reduces spam calls from foreign networks using new filter

Telia Estonia said that the number of fraudulent calls from foreign networks has been reduced significantly since the implementation of a special filtering method. It checks all incoming calls from foreign networks and evaluates whether the caller's number complies with the international format, belongs to a number range actually assigned to an operator in a given country. and is technically valid and in use.

Four European internet router suppliers have joined forces to establish SAFENet, an alliance advocating for European self-reliance in their target market. Fritz!, Devolo, Lancom and TDT will collaborate to foster dialogue with European policymakers and users, aiming to highlight potential measures to make routers more secure and stamp out risks which it believes are linked to foreign manufacturers.

Exponential-e wins Lincolnshire Council SD-WAN contract

Exponential-e, UK managed communications and IT services provider, has won a 5-year WAN services contract from Lincolnshire County Council in England. It will deliver and manage an upgraded Cisco SD-WAN connecting more than 200 sites, replacing an existing Public Services Network (PSN) infrastructure. The contract was awarded through the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) Network Services 3 Framework.

Ukraine can now activate emergency EU cyber support to respond to large-scale cybersecurity incidents, after the Council of the European Union approved its inclusion in the EU Cybersecurity Reserve on 15 June. The Reserve, managed by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), provides incident response services from trusted private providers to help address significant or large-scale incidents.

Schwarz Digits, the IT and digital division of the Schwarz Group, said it has appointed Harald Mannheim as head of defence. A majority of communication service providers (CSPs) polled by TM Forum are forging ahead with sovereign AI projects, though a full consensus is yet to emerge on the right approach. The figures, published ahead of TM Forum's flagship DTW Ignite event, indicate 77 percent of the panel had commercial leads lined up to monetise sovereign AI and related capabilities, targeting strict performance criteria such as governance, infrastructure autonomy and data sovereignty.

Anthropic withdraws top AI models after US security objections

Anthropic has withdrawn access to its most advanced AI models following security concerns expressed by the US government. The US authorities issued an export ban on the company's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models, meaning no foreigners, in the US or elsewhere, even those working at Anthropic, can use the models legally. Anthropic says this means it must block use of the models for everyone in order to ensure compliance. Its other models are unaffected.

Kainos to create over 300 new jobs in N Ireland

Kainos, Belfast-based digital transformation and IT services group, plans to create 341 new jobs in Northern Ireland over the next three years. The new jobs will support an expansion of its AI capabilities in response to rising demand from customers. Most of the new roles will be located in Belfast, with 32 based at the company's Derry/Londonderry office. The Australian government plans to work with telecom providers, cloud operators and other infrastructure providers to enable the upstream blocking of cyber threats as part of the next phase of its national cybersecurity strategy.
