Telefonica Germany migrates first mobile customers to Mavenir IMS on AWS

Telefonica Germany has migrated the first 100,000 mobile customers to Mavenir's cloud-native IMS built on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. Mavenir said it expects to migrate a few million mobile customers to the new solution running on AWS Cloud this year, and complete migration next year. Mavenir and Telefonica Germany extended their contract in February, before moving to migrate the operator's 4G/5G voice services from Mavenir's virtualized IMS (vIMS) to Mavenir's cloud‑native IMS platform.

MTS launches marketplace for industrial IoT solutions

Russian operator MTS launched its own marketplace of business digitisation solutions. All the products are available with integrated billing and support, so customers do not need to do any of their integration. The marketplace includes IoT solutions targeting several applications, such as environmental control, digital water management and others. All solutions are offered turnkey-ready, with a free annual subscription to the IoT platform.

Georgian mobile operators book 9% higher sales in Q1

Revenues at the three Georgian mobile operators, Magticom, Sliknet and Cellfie, totaled GEL 230.6 million in the first quarter of this year, reports Apny.ge. Their combined turnover grew by 9 percent year-on-year. Magticom led by revenues (GEL 109.2 million), followed by Silknet (GEL 79.4 million) and Cellfie (GEL 41.4 million). The subscriber base of Magticom was 2.4 million, Silknet totaled 2.1 million, and Cellfie followed with 1.3 million.

Viva Armenia reports mobile service revenues of AMD 14.6 bln in Q1

Viva Armenia said it generated revenues from mobile services of AMD 14.58 billion in the first quarter of this year. Voice contributed AMD 2.537 billion, while data services were worth AMD 8.001 billion in turnover. OIBDA from the services reached AMD 7.874 billion, while Viva's capital expenditure amounted to AMD 2.601 billion.

Russian operator Megafon said it deployed a 5G network in the commercial exhibition area in downtown of Nizhny-Novgorod. The conference Digital Industry for Industrial Russia takes place there. Details on which spectrum bands are used for the 5G network were not provided; commercial 5G services are not yet available in Russia.

Tele2 Latvia plans to invest EUR 120,000 in the launch of its new service centre in the city of Liepaja, reports Db.lv. The 67-m2 shop is based in the commercial centre Ostmala and is the third outlet deployed under a new design concept. Two current service centres of Tele2 will be closed in the city.

Lithuanian telecom market grows 8% in Q1

Lithuanian telecommunications revenues totaled EUR 236.53 million in the first quarter of this year, up by 7.53 percent year-on-year, according to a study from the national regulator RRT. Data  services generated 65.02 percent of all revenues (EUR 153.79 million), as the mobile data traffic increased 25.59 percent to 592.27 PB on Lithuanian networks. The amount of SIMs used for 5G services reached 1.107 million, up by 75.15 percent.

Megafon upgrades 4G network in Moscow region

Russian operator Megafon has upgraded its mobile network in the Moscow region, with new base stations deployed and existing sites upgraded in 12 municipalities. Broadband at up to 100 Mbps has become available there, in Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Sergiyev-Posad, Odintsovo, Korolyov, Domodedovo, Solnechnegorsk, Balashikha and other placess. Additional spectrum has been aggregated on the LTE network, and the upgraded base stations support VoLTE and MIMO 2X2 technologies.

Sweden's 2G and 3G network shutdowns in December 2025 have been successful, according to an interim report from telecoms regulator PTS. There were no major incidents, but some mobile phones could not make phone calls to 112 except by emergency roaming, even 4G-compatible handsets and those able to make regular voice calls.

New Apple iOS feature restricts precision location data shared with operators

Apple launched a new iPhone and iPad setting that obscures the exact location of devices connected to cellular networks. The "Limited precise location" feature is designed to apply limits on location data shared with cellular carriers, often collected in the process of tracking the user's connection to local cell towers. When activated, it configures the Apple device to withhold certain data from the network, for example only revealing the neighbourhood of its location rather than a specific street address.

Africell is integrating artificial intelligence across its operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to optimise network efficiency, eliminate fraud and accelerate revenue generation, ITWeb reported. Africell DRC CEO Kory Webster said it aims to improve customer service and support faster operational decision-making. Webster said the company's strategy is focused on increasing network usage and enhancing service quality rather than relying on tariff increases.
