​New research from Virgin Media O2 shows that home connectivity is no longer optional for parents as internet access becomes essential for exam preparation. The majority (80%) of parents say internet connectivity is now more important for their children's education than two years ago; with almost three quarters (73%) saying connectivity is as vital as textbooks once were; and over two thirds (68%) saying their children would fall behind without home internet access.

This Speed Boost gives customers up to 2x faster speeds when they need it. It is also available to small businesses with 1-9 employees.

Global kickboxing organisation Glory has launched a new streaming service called Glory Unlimited. This will provide subscribers with access to more than 1,200 fights and 750 ours of content for EUR 4.99/USD 4.99 per month. The complete Glory library will be available to kickboxing fans on-demand through YouTube from anywhere in the world.

Ofcom orders tech firms to block underage children from platforms

UK regulator Ofcom has warned major sites and apps to enforce minimum age rules with highly-effective age verification. It has written to major sites/apps used by children - YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Roblox - giving them until end-April to report back to Ofcom about the action they will take to keep children safe online. Ofcom will report on how have they have responded in May, along with any planned regulatory action for non-compliance.

Sky Mobile is now offering the new Samsung Galaxy S26, Galaxy 26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphones to UK customers. The Galaxy S26 is available from GBP 26 per month, the Galaxy S26+ from GBP 34 per month, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra from GBP 41 per month - all with an upfront cost of GBP 12 and saving of GBP 144. The Galaxy S26 range is available in the colours Sky Blue, White, Black and Cobalt Violet.

Sky has announced a co-commissioning partnership with Canal+ to develop premium, English-language scripted content. They will look to develop at least two projects a year over an initial 3-year period, with green-lit projects co-financed by both companies. Philippines operator Globe Telecom has bundled its 5G-ready Prepaid Traveler SIM and eSIM products with a GrabCar discount for inbound travelers. Each purchase includes a voucher providing new Grab users with a 50 percent discount on rides in all cities where the service operates. These SIMs are available in data tiers of 20 GB, 30 GB, 80 GB, and 120 GB. Physical SIM cards are sold at Globe booths in major airports, while eSIMs can be purchased in advance through the GlobeOne app.

LG Uplus has launched a spring membership promotion offering rewards and events for both new and long-term mobile subscribers as part of efforts to increase engagement with its customer loyalty programme. Plus adds Samsung Galaxy S26 to smartphone range

Polish operator Polkomtel, trading under the Plus brand, has started sales of the Samsung Galaxy S26 smartphones in its shops. The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra 5G 12/256GB costs PLN 6,499, and the 12/512GB version is available for PLN 6,949. The Samsung Galaxy S26+ 12/256 GB costs PLN 5,599, and the 12/512GB version is offered for PLN 6,049, while the Galaxy S26 12/256 GB model is priced at PLN 4,499 and sells for PLN 4,949 for the 12/512 GB version.

Russia loses Express-AT1 satellite

Russian telecommunictions satellite Express-AT1, located at 56 degrees East, stopped working unexpectedly, reports Kommersant. Efforts at the state-owned satellite operator RSCC and the vendor Reshetnev to restore its functions have been unsuccessful. The launch of its replacement is not planned until 2030 when the satellite was expected to reach the end of its serviceable life.

Gray Media blocks local stations from Dish TV line-up

EchoStar announced that 226 channels in 113 markets are currently unavailable to Dish pay-TV customers after a decision by Gray Media to back out its local stations from the Dish TV line-up. EchoStar said Gray Media decided to disconnect the stations after Dish declined to accept "unreasonable rate increases" that would have resulted in higher monthly fees for customers. The disconnected stations provide local news, sports and weather to millions of customers.

UK govt launches new Online Crime Centre to tackle international criminals

The UK government has announced the launch of a new online crime squad to tackle organised online crime gangs. The new Online Crime Centre, launching in April, will combine specialists from the police, government, mobile networks, banks, tech firms and intelligence agencies for co-ordinated action against fraud. It is part of the government's new GBP 250 million, 3-year fraud strategy (2026-2029).

MediaMarkt introduces shopping by appointment

MediaMarkt has started offering shopping by appointment in the Netherlands. Customers can choose a dedicated time to meet a specialist in the shop and receive one-to-one advice so they can select a product faster and more in line with their needs. MediaMarkt said consumers may do research online before visiting a shop, but often they would like professional advice in-store to confirm their purchase.

O2 UK offers free 5G+ upgrade for all pay-monthly customers

Virgin Media O2 is offering millions of O2 mobile customers the chance to upgrade to 5G+ at no extra cost. The O2 5G Standalone network is now live in over 700 towns and cities across the UK, with the upgrade available to all pay-monthly customers with a compatible handset. The 5G+ service offers enhanced coverage, faster speed and other benefits for customers.

Cgates ordered to improve pricing info for customers after complaints

Lithuanian telecom regulator RRT has found that the regional fixed operator Cgates is providing customers with insufficient information on changes to its term and conditions including prices. The company's practices are incompatible with transparency requirements, according to the regulator, and it ordered Cgates to end the violations immediately. Cgates also must provide customers with the right to terminate contracts with no penalty if it changes prices.

Vivo launches Y51 Pro 5G smartphone with 7200 mAh battery in India

Vivo has launched its Y51 Pro 5G mid-range smartphone in India. The vivo Y51 Pro 5G is manufactured at Vivo India's Greater Noida facility. The smartphone runs on Android 16 platform, and features a 7200 mAh battery.

TAJIKISTAN 11 MRT

Megafon Tajikistan launches IPTV service

Megafon Tajikistan has introduced to customers its new IPTV service Ajoyib TV. Up to 100 channels as well as a VOD service are available under a single platform. Customers can choose packages with 40 to 100 channels, as well as video content from online services Wink, Start, Megogo, KinoUZ and OneFC. The service is available on smartphones, tablets, PCs, smart TVs and set-top boxes. Up to five devices can be connected simultaneously.

Plus starts sales of iPhone 17e

Polish operator Polkomtel, trading under the Plus brand, has started sales of the iPhone 17e smartphone in its shops. The device is available for sale under the installment programme Play Exchange, where customers pay over a 36-month contract and can upgrade their phone to a new model after 24 months. Under this programme, the iPhone 17e costs PLN 2,229 (PLN 299 initial payment and 24 monthly payments totaling PLN 83.33 each).

Redit adds 4 new TV channels

Slovak pay TV operator Redit, working in Central Slovakia, has added four TV channels from Music Box to its pay TV lineup, reports Zive. The list includes Music Box Classic, Music Box Hits, Music Box Sexy and Music Box Dance. The channels have been added to the XL and XXL packages from the operator.

Bouygues Telecom adds Netgem's Pleio TV thematic channels to IPTV platform

French operator Bouygues Telecom has expanded its existing collaboration with Netgem, previously focused on the Pleio cloud gaming service, with a new distribution partnership covering an initial selection of 20 FAST (Free Ad Supported TV) channels within the Netgem Pleio TV app. All Bouygues Telecom TV customers will have access to the app, broadening their choice with thematic channels such as TV5 Monde+ Chefs and Passion Novelas.
