Cetin International has appointed Jason King as its chief executive officer, effective 1 May. King currently serves as CEO of Yettel Bulgaria. King will also be responsible for the development of the Group's ICT initiatives in its international markets in Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and Slovakia, in cooperation with the relevant boards of directors and management teams. Telia Estonia works on major expansion of fibre network

Telia Estonia announced a major project for the deployment of its fibre-optic network to around 136,000 households. Set to run until the end of 2032, this is the largest ever such investment in the country, Telia said. The roll-out should reach full scale in 2027, when more than 20,000 households will be covered annually. The operator plans to take the total coverage to around 575,000 households in 2032.

Brazil sees 20% increase in foreign investment in telecom sector in 2025

Foreign investment in Brazil's telecommunications sector surged by 20.4 percent in 2025, reaching USD 7.44 billion (BRL 39.1 billion), up from USD 6.17 billion (BRL 32.4 billion) in 2024. These investments were earmarked mostly for connectivity, network expansion, and modernising telecommunications services, according to a government statement. Deutsche Telekom has set up a new network to connect the sites of Constantia Flexibles, a global manufacturer of flexible packaging, replacing the MPLS infrastructure with a SD-WAN and internet connections. Kazakhstan telecom market grows 10% in 2025

Kazakhstan's telecom market was worth KZT 1.475 trillion in 2025, an increase of 10 percent from the year before, according to figures from the national statistics agency reported by Profit.kz. It said internet service revenues grew by 21 percent to KZT 877.7 billion, and mobile service revenues increased by 7 percent to KZT 224.5 billion, while revenues from fixed local telephony services dropped by 8 percent to KZT 26.7 billion.

Armenian operators Ucom, Team Telecom Armenia and Viva have announced that their customers are able to pay for their services using the IDBank application, reports Arka. Customers can pay using their bank accounts or through the Rocket Line instalment service.

Beeline Uzbekistan offers smartphone financing with annual contract

Beeline Uzbekistan, a subsidiary of the Veon Group, is offering subscribers the option to purchase smartphones on instalments, providing they pay for their services from the operator in a timely manner. The ZTE Blade A56 4+64 Black is available for a UZS 100,000 monthly payment, the ZTE Blade A76 4G 4+128 Black for UZS 115,000 monthly and the Samsung Galaxy A07 (2025) for UZS 149,900 per month. All the devices are offered under an annual contract.

Telia Lithuania makes EUR 100,000 donation to Ukraine

Telia Lithuania said that it has donated EUR 100,000 to Ukraine under the national support action. Telia Global Services Lithuania has also joined the effort. The total amount of support for Ukraine provided by Telia Lithuania is EUR 600,000, which includes direct financial aid, as well as the value of devices and services provided free of charge.

Wildanet unable to complete Project Gigabit contracts in Cornwall

UK fibre altnet Wildanet has withdrawn from completing two UK government-funded Project Gigabit contracts in southwest and central Cornwall. It has covered around 13,200 premises under these contract so far, but says it will be unable to connect the remaining 7,700 contracted premises. BDUK is now working to agree contracts with alternative suppliers to connect the remaining premises.

Virgin Media O2 has activated the O2 5G Standalone network in Manchester and surrounding towns across Greater Manchester. The O2 5GSA network is now live in more than 500 locations across the UK, with the roll-out part of the group's Mobile Transformation Programme. As well as covering more than 589,000 city residents in Manchester, the roll-out also covers towns such as Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan and Bolton.

Tunisia's mobile payments and transfers increase 81% in 2025

Tunisia's central bank has reported an 81 percent year-on-year rise in mobile payments, transfers and cash-in/cash-out transactions, reaching a total of 8.4 million across 2025. In value terms, operations enabled by payment service providers (PSPs) amounted to TND 1,769 billion, representing a 59 percent increase over the same period. Mobile payments accounted for a 52 percent share of the total value, with the remainder broadly split among transfers, cash-in and cash-out transactions.

Vecima sales rise more than 3% in December quarter

Vecima Networks grew revenues by 3.5 percent to CAD 73.7 million in its second quarterly period to 31 December, amid improved profitability across its two largest operating segments. Vecima broke even in Q2, turning a CAD 100,000 profit after CAD 7.9 million net losses in the second quarter a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA reached CAD 10.6 million, reversing a marginal CAD 300,000 loss from the year-earlier period.

Microsoft has launched two new data centres in Brazil's Sao Paulo state as of January. This is part of a larger BRL 14.7 billion investment plan in Brazil for AI infrastructure and training, initially announced in 2024 by Microsoft. The progress was announced by Priscyla Laham, president of Microsoft Brazil, at the company's 'AI Tour' held at the Transamerica Expo Center in Sao Paulo to present its AI services and plans to customers and partners.

Starlink powers onboard Wi-Fi connectivity for Southwest Airlines

US airline Southwest Airlines has appointed Starlink to deliver ultrafast onboard Wi-Fi connectivity for passengers across 11 countries. The first aircraft equipped with Starlink connectivity will be operational in the summer, with the service rolled out across more than 300 aircraft by end-2026. This supports the airline's plans to upgrade all its aircraft with high-speed, LEO satellite technology. Southwest already offers free Wi-Fi to Rapid Rewards members across its fleet through T-Mobile.
