BIPT aims to clarify advertised internet speeds
Belgian regulator BIPT has put forth a proposal set to bring more clarity to advertised internet speeds. The lack of guidelines makes it unclear what real speeds are, for example, in advertisements, where no account is taken of the customer's situation. The BIPT would like companies to publish two speeds: one figure showing speeds over a 24-hour period, and the other charting peak moments, between 19.00-21.00hrs. Both figures should show upload and download speeds. As figures would show lower and upper limits, the new rules would potentially show one, two or eight speeds. Operators would also need to split customers into different categories, with each category showing eight final figures. Parties have until 19 October to comment on the BIPT proposal.
