BT looking to offload Dutch Global Services infrastructure - report

BT Group CEO Philip Jansen is looking to sell off telecoms infrastructure worth more than GBP 100 million in the Netherlands, reports The Sunday Times.

He wants to sell the broadband cables and towers connecting used by BT Global Services to connect Dutch business customers. BT Global Services generated sales of GBP 4.7 billion in 2018, with the Dutch division posting sales of GBP 186 million and a loss of GBP 214 million.

BT is looking to offload non-core units to focus on rolling out ultrafast full-fibre broadband across the UK. It has recently sold its fleet management services subsidiary, and is also looking to sell BT Global Services operations in Spain, Latin America and Ireland.

BT reportedly initiated exploratory talks with potential buyers for BT Espana earlier this year as part of the restructuring of its international Global Services division.

In the end, the price of the TPSI European Telecom Services index fell by 0.5 percent over week 34, while the EuroStoxx 50 index rose by 0.2 percent. Syn (Vodafone Iceland) was the largest downer with -14 percent, the Italian Tiscali the largest gainer with +21 percent. Apart from these microcaps, the Polish Play (-6.2%) and the Spanish MasMovil (+ 8.8%) were the biggest outliers.

The deal includes an initial leaseback agreement of 30 months during which time BT will move its headquarters to a new London location. Orange sells remaining stake in BT for GBP 486 mln

Orange has completed the sale of its residual participation in BT Group for a net amount of GBP 486 million. The company said that it would sell approximately 248 million BT shares through a private placement, representing around 2.5 percent of the group's share capital, with settlement planned for 02 July. Of the total shares, around 41 million have been acquired by BT. Orange had previously said that BT would participate in the sale with a GBP 80 million irreducible order at the placement price.
