EC highlights big difference in mobile prices across EU

The Netherlands is the most expensive country for making mobile calls, according to research published by the European Commission. The EC issued a statement to highlight the wide range in mobile prices in the EU, based on data from its latest Digtial Scorecard. According to the prices for 2011, the Netherlands was the most expensive with an average of EUR 0.147 per minute, while Lithuania was the cheapest at EUR 0.019 per minute. The 774 percent difference in domestic mobile prices is the largest among telecom prices in the EU. The EC said the big difference shows a single EU market in telecoms is still not a reality. The commission will present in September its proposals for improving the single market.
