Google prepares sale of Motorola Home business - report

Google is expected to put Motorola Mobility's Home division, which focuses on set-top boxes and other equipment for cable operators, up for sale this autumn, Light Reading Cable reported citing industry insiders. According to one source, Google is expected to start the sale process in early September, and complete the initial round of bidding in October. Depending on how quickly things move, Google could have a deal in place by mid-December. Another source said Google might require more time to finish its strategic assessment of the Motorola assets, and that it will likely strip out the intellectual property before it puts the cable assets on the block. One source estimated that the remaining assets could be worth around USD 2 billion.
