Huawei wins Banglalink 3G deal
Huawei has bagged a deal worth USD 300 million to expand network of Banglalink, the second-largest mobile operator in Bangladesh. Under the deal Huawei will develop the 3G network of Banglalink if the operator wins a 3G licence in the auction scheduled for 02 September. Huawei will work on modernising the existing network, adding power savings and service quality improvements. Banglalink will invest USD 300 million to increase its network capacity, said Banglalink CEO Ziad Shatara at an announcement reported by local media.

Bangladeshi operators raise questions about 3G auction

Bangladeshi mobile phone operators have sought clarification about the process of auctioning 3G spectrum, bdnews24.com reported online. They did so at a meeting on 29 July with the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), when the regulator shared how the auction will happen on 02 September. Banglalink launches re-activation promotion

Bangladesh mobile operator Banglalink has launched a re-activation promotion. Customers who top-up their inactive account will get 100 MB of internet data, on-net calls priced at BDT 0.045 per 10 seconds between 12am and 5pm, and off-net calls priced at BDT 0.10 per ten seconds between 5pm and 12am. The special tariff is valid for thirty days following the recharge, which can be extended for another thirty days by topping up BDT 50 within the period.

BTRC offers discount on 3rd block in 3G auction

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) plans to offer a special discount to the winners in the upcoming 3G auction, mainly to sell the entire spectrum in the 2.1 gigahertz band. BTRC chairman Sunil Kanti Bose said, if the winning operators purchase more than two blocks, each block containing 5 MHz of spectrum, they will get discount on a third block, The Daily Star reported online.

Orascom Telecom Bangladesh changes name

Orascom Telecom Bangladesh, who operates under the Banglalink brand, has changed its name to Banglalink Digital Communication. A company executive told the Dhaka Tribune that it is not only a change of company name, but also a rebranding exercise. The name change has already been approved by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, the Board of Investment, and Registrar of the Joint Stock Companies and Firms. However, the National Board Revenue (NBR) has not yet approved the change.

Huawei reports H1 sales up 10.8% to CNY 113.8 bln

Huawei reported sales up 10.8 percent year-on-year to CNY 113.8 billion in the first half, driven by steady growth in carrier network equipment, enterprise market expansion and rapid growth in consumer products. The company had reported 5 percent annual revenue growth in the first half of last year. CEO Cathy Meng said Huawei expects to meet its target to increase revenues by 10 percent in the full year and anticipates a 7-8 percent net profit margin. Revenues rose by 8 percent to CNY 220.2 billion in 2012.
