Nokia intends to cut over 1,200 more jobs in France

French trade unions have vowed to oppose a new restructuring plan announced by Nokia, which will see 402 job losses at the site of Lannion (Cotes d'Armor) and 831 in Nozay (Essonne). The CFE-CGC trade union described the move as an earthquake, indicating that the plan would cut Nokia's workforce in France (excluding subsidiaries) by 30 percent. This latest reduction would be the fourth round of job cuts in France since Nokia's acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent, completed in 2016.

In contrast to previous reorganisations, most of the job losses would come from the company’s R&D teams, with 1,000 employees out of 2,500 affected, according to Les Echos. Nokia said that the restructuring plan is part of a global cost-saving programme due to end in 2020, which was first unveiled by the company in October 2018.

Qualcomm to open 5G R&D hub in France

US chipmaker Qualcomm is expanding its R&D presence in France with a new centre co-located in Lannion, Brittany, and Issy-Les-Moulineaux, in the Paris region. Orange selects Nokia and Ericsson for 5G network roll-out in France

Orange announced that it has chosen Nokia and Ericsson to support its 5G deployment in France. The two companies are both long-term partners of the operator, already providing RAN equipment for 2G/3G/4G infrastructure. Nokia to cut 104 more jobs in Antwerp

Nokia is planning to cut another 104 jobs at its site in Antwerp, De Tijd reports. The union BBTK confirmed the plans based on internal documents seen by the paper. The restructuring comes a year after the company already let 107 employees go at the site.

Nokia negotiates up to 180 Finnish job cuts

Finnish company Nokia has announced it is entering talks workers with an aim to cut up to 180 jobs in Finland this year, according to an article on public broadcaster YLE's English website. Nokia said the redundancies would affect employees at facilities across the country, but mostly at its headquarters in Espoo. Nokia said the cuts would not affect development of 5G technologies or its factory in Oulu.
