Nokia wins contracts worth EUR 2 bln from three Chinese operators
Nokia announced it has signed three separate frame agreements worth a combined value of more than EUR 2 billion with China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom. Under the terms of the contracts, Nokia will deploy technologies and services designed to upgrade performance in fixed and mobile broadband networks across China to support operators’ transition to 5G. 

Nokia will provide China Mobile with radio access, core, passive optical networks, IP routing and optical transport, SDN, network management and professional services. Nokia will support China Telecom to upgrde country-wide 4G LTE coverage and hot spot capacity. Nokia will provide China Telecom with its FDD-LTE radio access, home CPE services, core routers, multi-service edge routers and optics. 

Nokia will also help China Unicom deploy technologies across the country including Nokia FDD-LTE radio access, Multi-access Edge Computing, virtualized IMS, SDN, IP routing and optical transport, and fixed network equipment. Working with Nokia, China Unicom aims to enhance network quality and capacity to grow its 4G LTE customer base, while researching and developing the expansion of IoT services and the evolution to 5G, including the use of artificial intelligence in networks. 

Nokia will provide its services expertise under the frame agreements, including network planning, implementation, systems integration, maintenance and performance optimization.

Nokia, in partnership with China Mobile/CMCC Guangxi, has deployed a landslide monitoring and early warning system for highways operations management company BGIGC Group (Guangxi Beibu Gulf Investment Group). Deployed on the G75 Lanzhou–Haikou Expressway, one of the main highways in Guangxi province, the system has already undergone extensive trials. According to Nokia, during these trials, the system successfully prevented adverse impact to road users following a landslip in March 2019.

China Unicom deploys Nokia optical fronthaul for 5G deployment

China Unicom has selected the Nokia optical fronthaul service to power its 4G and 5G networks in Beijing. Nokia's optical fronthaul network is expected to provide transport of China Unicom's 4G/5G cloud RAN traffic in Beijing, and power transmissions between central-office baseband units and remote radios. The Nokia 1830 Versatile WDM Module (VWM) also provides multiservice WDM optical transport for 4G and 5G fronthaul in cloud RAN architectures.

China Mobile adopts Nokia Massive MIMO for transition to 5G services

Nokia worked directly with the Chinese operator to create the new version of the MAA at 320W. CMCC is now able to support 4G and 5G in concurrent mode in the 2.6 GHz frequency band. In addition, the 160 MHz, 320W version is expected to provide CMCC with upgraded coverage and capacity.

Nokia has announced that its Chinese subsidiary Nokia Shanghai Bell (NSB) has won the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) optical transport network (OTN) project. The deployment will cover SGCC Beijing and Tianjin and is designed to help SGCC upgrade its transport network from 10 Gbps to beyond 100 Gbps, based on Nokia's in-house PSE chipset.
