Orange to open up 5G lab for partners, launch demo site in Paris

Orange announced further locations for its 5G testing programme, in addition to the planned trials in Lille, Douai, and Marseille. In the first of the new projects, taking place from this autumn, Orange’s partners will be able to carry out tests in a 5G lab within the Orange Gardens research base in Chatillon (Ile-de-France region). Another initiative is planned next year in the capital’s ninth arrondissement, in the area where the Orange Opera megastore is located, focused on a demonstration platform to showcase new services.

The 5G lab in Chatillon will be mainly dedicated to testing of consumer – rather than B2B – applications, such as augmented reality and 4K/8K video streaming, while 5G services for businesses will be developed within the Paris-Saclay research centre.

Orange also confirmed that it will carry out 5G trials with connected vehicles as part of its partnership with Utac Ceram, a French group specialising in vehicle testing and certification. As Utac Ceram's connectivity partner, the operator will provide high-speed mobile coverage at the company's facilities in Linas-Montlhery (Ile-de-France region), and will participate in research collaborations on intelligent transport systems.
