SES Astra, Telekom to offer joint TV service Entertain Sat
European satellite services provider SES Astra cooperates with Deutsche Telekom in Germany to combine Astra's satellite free-TV offer including HD+ with Deutsche Telekom's IPTV product Entertain. The offer will include all free-to-air, TV and radio channels in SD and HD on Astra including HD+ as well as the typical Entertain services like VoD, a TV archive and an EPG. Entertain Sat also comprises time shift functions and hard disk recording with 500 GB memory as well as broadband and telephony with a flatrate plan for calls within Germany. Entertain Sat will be available for households all across Germany with a DSL connection of at least 3 Mbps. HD+ is a platform in Germany for access to free-TV programmes in HD. The HD+ offer currently comprises eight German private free-TV channels in HD: RTL HD, Vox HD, RTL2 HD, ProSieben HD, Sat.1 HD, kabel eins HD, Sport1 HD and sixx HD.

Telekom adds 3 HD channels to IPTV service Entertain

Deutsche Telekom has expanded its HD channels for its IPTV service Entertain with three channels on 16 May. The new HD channels are MTV HD, VIVA HD and Nickelodeon / Comedy Central HD. VIVA HD and Nickelodeon / Comedy Central HD are automatically added the basic digital TV package at no extra costs and MTV HD is added to Entertain's HD package, which costs EUR 9.95 per month.

Two-thirds of the customers who registered a free one-year SES Astra's HD+ trial in Germany renewed the HD+ service following the expiration of the free trial period. Of the 172,000 viewers who had purchased an HD+ device with an HD+ card between 1 November 2009 and 31 March 2010 and used the HD+ service free of charge for a twelve-month period, 66 percent renewed their HD+ service. Telekom announces 3D ad for Entertain IPTV service

Telekom Deutschland will launch a new 3D ad for the Entertain IPTV. The 3D ad be available in more than 50 selected 3D cinemas across Germany from 07 April. It features Oscar winner Christoph Waltz promoting the benefits of the Entertain services, and was directed by Hollywood director Paul Anderson. It will be complemented by a 2D TV ad broadcasting from 21 March.

Sky, Telekom sign wholesale distribution agreement

German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland has confirmed the signing of a distribution agreement with Telekom Deutschland. Under the terms of the agreement, Sky channels will be offered on a wholesale basis to German housing companies over Telekom's fibre networks. The agreement does not cover the inclusion of Sky channels in Telekom's Entertain IPTV service.

Deutsche Telekom attacks cable on own turf

Deutsche Telekom is preparing an attack on German cable network operators on 'their' own turf of TV services. According to reports in the German media, Telekom plans to offer wholesale TV services to German housing corporations using its own existing fibre networks. The corporations are currently dependent on cable operators for their TV services. At the same time, Telekom is in talks with German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland to offer their TV channels to the housing corporations as well.
