T-Mobile NL to introduce VoLTE on 4G network next year

T-Mobile Netherlands plans to start providing VoLTE in mid-2016. Speaking at a press event in Zeeland, Richard Marijs, the company’s network and spectrum specialist, said the operator is not in a hurry to introduce VoLTE and noted that the number of LTE-enabled handsets is still limited. Marijs also said that one of the greatest advantage of VoLTE, a better call quality, is already available with the operator’s 3G network.

T-Mobile NL is putting all of its attention for the moment on the roll-out of its 4G network. The operator expects to reach nationwide coverage with a combination of LTE-1800 and LTE-900. When the milestone gets reached, 95 percent of all T-Mobile NL customers in the operator’s catchment area will have 4G coverage.

After nationwide coverage is reached, T-Mobile NL will be busy filling in the gaps of its 4G network. The provider hopes to have 7,000 antennas by the end of this year, noting the number is about what KPN and Vodafone Netherlands have added together.

In mid-2016, the network of T-Mobile NL will be ready for the commercial introduction of VoLTE in the country. The provider will be aiming for an even higher quality and user experience. VoLTE will not only bring better sound quality, but also a faster call set-up. It now takes 7 to 15 seconds before a call is made; with VoLTE, the time will be reduced to 1 to 2 seconds, provided both handsets are on LTE.

Vodafone Netherlands starts testing VoLTE with customers

Vodafone Netherlands said it's starting a beta test of VoLTE services with around 300 customers. The customers already have access to 4G and a Samsung Galaxy A5, S6 or S7, which is updated with the required firmware from Vodafone. The operator said it will gradually roll out VoLTE and aims to have all its customers with compatible handsets using the voice services on the 4G network by the end of this summer. Netherlands 4G networks perform best in Europe - P3

The four LTE networks in the Netherlands have achieved high scores in performance compared to other countries, according to the annual Connect Mobile Benchmark by P3 Communications. This is the second time the researcher has tested the Dutch market. T-Mobile emerged as the best this year, followed by KPN, Vodafone and Tele2. Last year T-Mobile was not included in the measurements as its 4G roll-out wasn't yet completed.

T-Mobile Netherlands activates 4G+ service

T-Mobile Netherlands has activated LTE-Advanced. From 13 January, customers with a 4G+ handset will be able to access speeds around 50 percent faster than previously, as well as enjoy a more stable connection. T-Mobile uses carrier aggregation for the faster speeds, starting initially with the 900 and 1,800 MHz bands. T-Mobile Netherlands revenue falls 8% in Q3

T-Mobile Netherlands reported revenues for the third quarter down 8.0 percent year-on-year to EUR 346 million. Excluding the sale of MVNO Bliep, organic revenues were down 7 percent. Service revenues declined 13 percent to EUR 257 million, while other sales, including equipment and wholesale, rose 9.9 percent to EUR 89 million. T-Mobile Netherlands starts 1-mth test offer to promote 4G

T-Mobile Netherlands is starting an offer for new customers to test its network for one month. The campaign 'Test us now' (Test us now) is aimed at promoting its 4G network, which just reached national coverage. T-Mobile Netherlands reaches national 4G coverage

T-Mobile Netherlands announced that it's achieved national 4G coverage. The network roll-out is completed as planned, in line with T-Mobile's target set early this year to reach national LTE network coverage by October.
