Telecom Italia has launched a new hybrid set-top box, offering access to broadcast and internet content. Based on the Intel Aton CE4150 processor, the new Cubovision box supports digital terrestrial TV, including premium services, as well as a media player for online programming, including the Italian operator's own Cubovision.it portal for on-demand content and La7.tv. Over 1,500 programming hours and 2,000 titles per month are promised for the portal, with regular additions of TV series, cartoons, documentaries, concerts and movies thanks to agreements with Italian and international producers and distributors. The portal is also accessible from PCs, the latest Samsung Smart connected TVs and from the new DGTVi Gold DTT decoders. ADSL customers can access their own content such as music, photos and videos, thanks to the 250 GB hard disk included in the white, cube-shaped box, which also supports a personal video recorder and EPG. Telecom Italia will soon make available the Cubovision application in the Apple and Samsung app stores, which will allow users to connect to Cubovision over their mobile phones and tablets. The operator also plans its own app store for the device. The Cubovision has a suggested retail price of EUR 199 or EUR 5.50 per month for 36 months.
