Tencent invests USD 50 mln in messaging app Kik
Canadian start-up Kik Interactive has raised USD 50 million to develop its chat service, thanks to an investment from Tencent. The Series D funding sees Kik valued at USD 1 billion. Last year, Kik founder and CEO Ted Livingston said he intended to make Kik the "WeChat of the West," pointing to the power of Tencent's Weixin to facilitate connections and enable an ecosystem built around messaging.
