Italian operator Tiscali will increase its fixed line coverage from 8 million to 18 million households throughout the country thanks to the ambitious deal concluded with Fastweb last November, according to Tiscali CEO Alex Kossuta. Describing the wholesale agreement as a “watershed”, Kossuta told business daily Il Sole 24 that 2018 was a “difficult, transitional year” for the operator but that the EUR 198 million received from Fastweb for its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) division plus 40 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band would allow the company to relaunch its business.
The chief executive also confirmed that Tiscali is not for sale and is aiming to use its expanded reach to increase its customer base from the current figure of 650,000 to close to 1 million by 2021 across mobile, fixed line and FWA.
