Vodafone TV to go on sale to all new Zealanders in September

Vodafone New Zealand will start selling the Vodafone TV box in leading retailers around New Zealand from September, without the need for Vodafone broadband. This ‘plug and play’ device turns a TV into a smart TV, including the ability to record content, and rewind free-to-air and Sky channels for up to three days. 

A range of popular apps are pre-loaded onto Vodafone TV including TVNZOnDemand, ThreeNow, Sky, Sky Sport, Netflix and YouTube. This soon will include Neon, Lightbox, Amazon Prime Video and PlayStuff.

New Zealanders will be able to purchase the new device from the Vodafone online store and in retail stores around the country. Vodafone TV comes pre-loaded with a range of content apps and consumers can choose to purchase as many or as few as they want on an ongoing basis. They can also choose to add Sky Channels via the Vodafone TV customer portal using their credit card, with no minimum term.

The new standalone Vodafone TV works with any unlimited Fibre broadband connection from any provider, and is 4K capable. Vodafone TV can store up to 500 hours of cloud recording and end-users can record as many channels as they’d like at once. Consumers will be able to buy the new standalone Vodafone TV device for NZD 179.

Nearly 44% of New Zealand consumers currently access the internet primarily through a fibre connection, according to a report from IDC. The report also indicates that New Zealand's adoption rate is more than double the average worldwide rate of 20 percent, and second only to Japan. Despite the worldwide average remaining the same as it was in 2018, New Zealand consumer adoption has seen an 11 percent increase in 2019 from 33 percent in 2018.

Vodafone New Zealand appoints Zwart as business director

Vodafone New Zealand has appointed Lindsay Zwart as its business director, effective 9 September. She replaces Ken Tunnicliffe who left Vodafone in July. Zwart returns to New Zealand after 5 years in the US, where she held senior positions in Microsoft, most recently as general manager of cloud and enterprise business, responsible for the marketing, sales and operations of the company's cloud and infrastructure portfolio of products.

Vodafone New Zealand to launch 5G network in December

Vodafone has announced it will launch its 5G network in New Zealand this December. The service will initially be available in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown.
