Android activations grow to over 850,000 per day
Google has updated its sales figures for Android devices, saying 850,000 are activated each day. Google mobile chief Andy Rubin said in a blog posting that activations are up by 250 percent in the past year and there are now more than 300 million Android devices in the world. He last reported in December 2011 that over 700,000 Android devices were activated each day. Rubin also announced that the number of apps on the Android Market has tripled in the past year to over 450,000, with over 1 billion apps downloaded each month. The company is showing over 100 Android devices, of the more than 800 available worldwide, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Google's Android OS has reached over 900,000 devices activated each day. The figure was announced in a tweet by Andy Rubin, head of mobile activities at Google. He also rejected rumours that he may be leaving Google, saying he has "no plans" to leave the company. An earlier report suggested he was leaving to head a new start-up called Cloud Car.

Apple announced that its App Store has passed the milestone of 25 billion apps downloaded. The announcement was made with a banner on its website. Aplpe has been holding a competition in the run-up to the milestone. The grand prize is a USD 10,000 gift voucher for the customer who downloaded the 25 billionth app. The latest milestone follows 15 billion apps downloaded last July by iPhone and iPad users. Google recently announced that its Android Market has grown to over 1 billion apps downloaded each month.

Google reports 3.7 mln Android devices activated over Xmas

Google announced that 3.7 million new Android devices were activated on 24-25 December. The news was posted by the company's mobile chief Andy Rubin on Google+. The figure is well ahead of the last figures announced by the company, of around 700,000 activations per day earlier this month. Earlier Flurry Analytics reported a total 6.8 million Android and Apple iOS devices activated on Christmas day.
