Huawei wins LTE equipment deal from Telefonica Germany
Telefonica Germany and Huawei have signed a deal for LTE infrastructure. Under the agreement, Telefonica will deploy LTE networks in several regions around Germany based on Huawei's SingelRan platform. The deal also is a reference project for LTE via 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz for other markets of the Telefonica Group. Huawei will provide Telefonica Germany's brand O2 Germany with a complete LTE network including LTE base stations (eNodeB) for the southern and western regions, where the operator is deploying LTE pilot networks as well as the complete core network based on its Evolved Packet Core solution for the whole of Germany. Huawei also delivers its LTE CPE router B390s for O2 customers enabling mobile data access. At the same time, Telefonica Germany and Huawei extend their existing GSM/UMTS equipment contracts under which O2's UMTS network will be upgraded to HSPA+ offering a maximum download speed of 21 Mbps. No financial details were disclosed.

Huawei has joined the European Movement Germany network EBD. The network promotes the European integration in Germany and border-crossing cooperation between European civil societies. EBD also supports its membership organisations with regards to European information, cooperation and education activities. Huawei wants to support EBD to promote a Chinese-European dialogue as well.

Huawei's 2010 profit grows 30%

Chinese equipment maker Huawei posted double-digit revenue and profit growth in FY 2010. Sales revenues were CNY 185.2 billion, up 24.2 percent from CNY 149.1 billion a year earlier. Telefonica Germany sells cheap smartphones via O2 Outlet

Telefonica Germany has launched the O2 Outlet at www.o2.de/outlet where customers can purchase current smartphone models from surplus stocks and returned goods at heavily reduced prices. The iPhone will be one of the first models sold through O2 Outlet, with a number of models being offered for EUR 100 under the standard price. Smartphones from other makers will be added shortly. Customers can return any devices that do not live up to expectations to O2 within 14 days.

O2 Germany to offer complete LTE broadband, phone packages

Telefonica O2 Germany's Head of Corporate and Legal Affairs, Markus Haas, has said that a launch of LTE mobile broadband services in June was "quite possible", teltarif.de reports. The company announced at a CeBIT press conference that its LTE network would officially launch commercial services on 01 July. O2 Germany launches rural LTE network trials

Telefonica O2 Germany is starting the next stage in developing LTE, by launching pilots in rural areas following the launch of urban pilot networks in Munich in early September. In Teutschenthal near Halle and Ebersberg near Munich, the first LTE pilot networks with frequencies of 800 megahertz will be switched on in November.
