Huawei wins LTE equipment deal from Telefonica Germany
Telefonica Germany and Huawei have signed a deal for LTE infrastructure. Under the agreement, Telefonica will deploy LTE networks in several regions around Germany based on Huawei's SingelRan platform. The deal also is a reference project for LTE via 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz for other markets of the Telefonica Group. Huawei will provide Telefonica Germany's brand O2 Germany with a complete LTE network including LTE base stations (eNodeB) for the southern and western regions, where the operator is deploying LTE pilot networks as well as the complete core network based on its Evolved Packet Core solution for the whole of Germany. Huawei also delivers its LTE CPE router B390s for O2 customers enabling mobile data access. At the same time, Telefonica Germany and Huawei extend their existing GSM/UMTS equipment contracts under which O2's UMTS network will be upgraded to HSPA+ offering a maximum download speed of 21 Mbps. No financial details were disclosed.
