Liberty Global to offer Netflix app on cable platforms
Cable operator Liberty Global announced an agreement to distribute Netflix across its TV platforms. The Netflix app will be added to the operator's Horizon set-top box in all the markets where Liberty Global is active, a total of more than 30 countries. The company already offers Netflix in the UK, on the Virgin Media platform. 

The first country with the Horizon box to receive Netflix will be the Netherlands, where Liberty Global owns the cable operator Ziggo. Existing Netflix subscribers will be able to log in and access the VoD service over the STB, and new subscribers can sign up for Netflix on the Ziggo platform. According to research by Telecompaper, around 20 percent of Dutch households subscribe to Netflix. Ziggo's main rival KPN already distributes Netflix on its IPTV platform.

Unitymedia offers Netflix on Horizon TV box

Unitymedia customers are able to access Netflix via an app on the Horizon HD Recorder. Customers of the German cable operator can sign up for Netflix through the app, or use their existing login details. First-time Netflix users will get a 30-day free trial period. Netflix is available via the Horizon app store, the Channel Bar or the EPG in the interface. The deal is part of a larger partnership between Netflix and Unitymedia parent company Liberty Global.

Virgin Media Ireland adds Netflix on Horizon box

Virgin Media Ireland has added access to Netflix to its Horizon set-top box for TV customers. This means Netflix subscribers can access the service directly from the Horizon menu, and new customers can subscribe to Netflix over the Virgin Media box. This is the third country where Liberty Global has rolled out Netflix access on Horizon, after the Netherlands and Switzerland. It signed a deal with Netflix earlier this year to deploy the service across its footprint.

Ziggo adds Netflix app to Horizon box

Dutch cable operator Ziggo has confirmed the launch of Netflix on its Horizon Mediabox from 06 December. This follows a global agreement in September between Ziggo's parent company Liberty Global and Netflix to offer the sVOD service on set-top boxes. Ziggo customers with a Netflix subscription will be able to access the service directly from the set-top box using the Netflix app on the Horizon box. They can also sign up for a Netflix subscription over the app.

Telenet to launch Horizon box, not necessarily with Netflix

The agreement for Liberty Global to offer Netflix to its cable customers likely won't be implemented soon in Belgium, where Liberty owns the operator Telenet. Fifth of Dutch households subscribe to Netflix

Around a fifth of Dutch households had a Netflix subscription at the end of 2015, an increase from 15 percent a year earlier, according to the Telecompaper Consumer Panel. KPN adds Netflix to IPTV menu

KPN has started offering Netflix on its IPTV platform. The company announced in October that it would add the streaming service to the menu of its Interactieve TV service.
