
Toyota Motor will cooperate with Nippon Telegraph & Telephone (NTT) on high-speed wireless technology, in an attempt to offer safer self-driving vehicles. Toyota and NTT plan to jointly develop 5G technology for connected cars, Nikkei repots. The project includes big-data analysis and artificial intelligence applications. Toyota and NTT are expected to officially announce their partnership agreement later this month.
NTT will use 5G technology currently under development by its main research arm as well as other group companies. NTT will also provide assistance in AI. The partnership with Toyota paves the way for expansion into autonomous driving.
Toyota is already collaborating with Japanese operator KDDI to develop connected cars utilizing 4G signals. The automaker plans to partner KDDI on 5G technology as well.
