HP stops webOS device operations

HP is stopping production of its webOS devices. As part of a shift in strategy, HP said it is "exploring strategic alternatives" for the webOS software and also announced it is considering the separation of its PC business into a separate company through a spin-off or other transaction. The company is implementing a plan to transform the company and is focusing on enterprise, small and midsize business, and public sector customers and is therefore looking at alternatives for its Personal Systems Group (PSG). HP will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones, based on the software it acquired with Palm. The devices have not met internal milestones and financial targets, the company said. HP will continue to explore options to optimise the value of webOS software going forward.
