Amazon in talks to buy WebOS from HP - report
Amazon is in talks to acquire WebOS, the mobile platform developed by Palm and owned by HP, a source familiar with the matter told VentureBeat. According to the report, HP is looking to "rid itself of Palm as soon as possible", and Amazon is the closest to finalizing the deal, among a handful of contenders. Notably, former Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein, who holds a "product innovation" role at HP's Personal Services Group, joined Amazon's board late last year. While Amazon uses the Android OS for its just-launched tablet, an acquisition of WebOS could give it more freedom to customize the device. HP announced earlier this year that it would stop making WebOS devices.

HTC considers buying mobile OS

HTC is considering buying an operating system but is not in any hurry, CNA writes citing the Economic Observer of China. HTC chairman Cher Wang said the company considered buying HP's WebOS after Hewlett-Packard announced in August it would wind down WebOs activities. "We have given it thought and we have discussed it internally, but we will not do it on impulse," Wang said. She added that the company's strength lies in understanding an OS, but that this does not mean the company has to produce an OS.

Samsung denies reported interest in HP WebOS

Samsung denied it was interested in buying Hewlett-Packard's WebOS software ,used in handsets and tablet computers, Bloomberg reported.
