HTC returns to profit as sales improve in Q2
HTC reported second-quarter sales of TWD 65.06 billion, just meeting its outlook for revenues of TWD 65-70 billion. The smartphone maker posted an operating profit of TWD 2.43 billion and net profit of TWD 2.26 billion or TWD 2.74 per share. The figures showed a strong improvement on the first quarter of the year, when the company reported a net loss of TWD 1.88 billion on sales of TWD 33 billion. 

This is likely due to the launch of its flagship HTC One M8 phone and other new models. Revenues in June reached TWD 21.9 billion, down just 0.7 percent year-on-year and 4.1 percent higher than May. Over the first half of 2014, revenues fell 13.5 percent to TWD 98.2 billion. HTC will release audited quarterly results at a later date.

HTC expected to ship 24 mln smartphones this year- report

HTC is expected to ship a total of 24 million smartphones this year, up from 20.34 million shipped the previous year, Digitimes reports, citing an industry source. HTC will face strong challenges from Apple, Samsung and Sony Mobile Communications during the second half of the year, according to the source. HTC revenues fall again in May

HTC reported revenues for May of TWD 21.07 trillion. After two months of growth, the smartphone maker saw revenues decline again in May, by 4.6 percent compared to March and by 27.4 percent year-on-year. Since the start of 2014, the company's revenues are down 16.5 percent year-on-year to TWD 76.26 billion. The Taiwanese company forecasts second-quarter revenue of TWD 65-70 billion, around double the Q1 figure of TWD 33 billion. In April and May, revenue totaled TWD 43.1 billion.

HTC introduces One mini 2 smartphone

HTC confirmed the launch of the One mini 2 smartphone this summer. The phone features a metallic body, available in grey, silver or gold, a 4.5-inch HD display and a 5 megapixel front camera. HTC starts outsourcing production - report

HTC  began to outsource production of some of its smartphones for the first time this quarter, as it looked to slash costs and pursue customers in developing markets. The Taiwanese smartphone maker has outsourced at least three of the new models in its mid-price Desire series to Taiwan-based contract manufacturer Compal Electronics and China's Wingtech Group, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal.
