HTC posts Q1 loss, sales recover in March
Smartphone maker HTC reported first-quarter sales down 22.6 percent year-on-year to TWD 33 billion. However, sales returned to growth in March, up 2.2 percent from a year earlier to TWD 16.2 billion, more than double the amount in February. This helped the company approach its guidance for quarterly sales, of TWD 34-36 billion. Sales were still down from TWD 43 billion in the fourth quarter. 

HTC reported an operating loss of TWD 2.05 billion for the first quarter, its third consecutive quarter in the red, as well as a net loss of TWD 1.88 billion. The company will release a detailed quarterly report later in the month.

HTC revenues fall again in May

HTC reported revenues for May of TWD 21.07 trillion. After two months of growth, the smartphone maker saw revenues decline again in May, by 4.6 percent compared to March and by 27.4 percent year-on-year. Since the start of 2014, the company's revenues are down 16.5 percent year-on-year to TWD 76.26 billion. The Taiwanese company forecasts second-quarter revenue of TWD 65-70 billion, around double the Q1 figure of TWD 33 billion. In April and May, revenue totaled TWD 43.1 billion.

HTC said it expects to return to a profit in the second quarter, helped by new devices such as its flagship One M8 smartphones and new mid-range Desire phones. HTC starts outsourcing production - report

HTC  began to outsource production of some of its smartphones for the first time this quarter, as it looked to slash costs and pursue customers in developing markets. The Taiwanese smartphone maker has outsourced at least three of the new models in its mid-price Desire series to Taiwan-based contract manufacturer Compal Electronics and China's Wingtech Group, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal. Both assemblers began to mass produce smartphones for HTC this spring, the people said.

HTC unveils new HTC One (M8) smartphone

HTC has unveiled the new HTC One (M8) smartphone. The device has a 5-in full HD display, Duo Camera technology, HTC Sense 6 technology, Smart Sensor Hub, 2.3 GHZ quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and fully integrated 4G LTE. HTC reported revenues for February down 36.45 percent from a year earlier to TWD 7.225 billion. Compared to January, revenues fell 25.29 percent. The smartphone maker earlier forecast revenue of TWD 34-36 billion for the first quarter, down from TWD 43 billion in the fourth quarter. The company expects a net loss for the quarter.

HTC announced a net profit of TWD 0.31 billion for the fourth quarter, down from TWD 1.0 billion a year earlier.
