Twitter loses CTO Messinger, product VP McFarland
Twitter CTO Adam Messinger is leaving the company, he announced in a tweet. Messinger had been working with Twitter for five years and became the CTO in March 2013. Prior to joining Twitter in 2011, he was vice president of development at Oracle. 

Engineering Vice President Ed Ho will take over all product and engineering and report directly to CEO Jack Dorsey, Recode reported, citing people familiar with the restructuring. A Twitter spokesman told Reuters that the company is working to "streamline and flatten the organization by elevating our engineering, product and design functions, with each area now reporting directly to Jack".

Separately, venture capital firm Greylock Partners said it hired Josh McFarland, vice president of product at Twitter. McFarland will leave Twitter early next year, just over two years after he joined when Twitter acquired the startup he founded, TellApart.

Twitter revenue growth slows to 1% as ad sales drop

Twitter reported a further slowdown in revenue growth in the fourth quarter, as the company struggles to attract ad spending. Sales rose just 1 percent year-on-year in Q4 to USD 717 million, as growth in advertising revenue came to a halt. Ad revenue dipped to USD 638 million versus USD 641 million a year ago. Twitter said it expects revenue growth to continue to lag audience growth in 2017 and is working on refining its product to restore sales.

Twitter has named Fiamma Zarife as its new general director in Brazil, reports O Globo. Since 2015 she has been responsible for the relationship of the social network with advertising agencies. She succeeds Guilherme Ribenboin, who was also the vice president of Twitter for Latin America.

Twitter names McSweeney as Irish MD, EMEA policy chief

Sinead McSweeney has been named Twitter's managing director for Ireland, replacing Mark Little, reports Silicon Republic. McSweeney was one of Twitter's first employees when it opened its office in Dublin in 2012. In addition to her role as the head of Twitter's operations in Ireland, she will also be vice-president of public policy and communications for the social network's EMEA region.

Twitter takes new head of product from newly-bought startup

Twitter has appointed a new head of product, taken from Yes, a newly acquired consumer mobile app startup, Recode reported. Under the purchase transaction, CEO Keith Coleman will join Twitter along with six other Yes employees, all in product and design roles. Coleman will take over the day-to-day leadership of "Bluebird," the core Twitter app and service.

Twitter confirms 9% cut in workforce, targets profit in 2017

Twitter has confirmed plans to cut 9 percent of its workforce as the company works towards a goal of profitability in 2017. In the third quarter of 2016, Twitter posted a net loss of USD 103 million, on sales up 8 percent year-on-year to USD 616 million. The company said the restructuring, which focuses primarily on reorganizing the company's sales, partnerships, and marketing efforts, is intended "to create greater focus and efficiency to enable Twitter's goal of driving toward GAAP profitability in 2017".

Twitter loses communications VP Kerris

Natalie Kerris, who joined Twitter as its VP of communications in February, is leaving the company, BuzzFeed News reported. Leslie Berland, Twitter's chief marketing officer, will lead both marketing and communications in a combined role. A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the change but did not give a reason for Kerris' departure. She joined Twitter earlier this year after a long tenure at Apple.

Twitter said it has appointed Bret Taylor, the founder and CEO of Quip, to serve as a board member, effective immediately. Taylor was previously the CTO at Facebook after it acquired FriendFeed, the social network he co-founded in 2007. Twitter will lose its head of business development, Jana Messerschmidt, and its head of media and commerce, Nathan Hubbard, Re/code reports, citing unnamed sources familiar with their plans.
