BBC, Channel 4 discuss combining some operations - report
UK public service broadcasters BBC and Channel 4 have held preliminary discussion with the government about a potential combination of some of their commercial operations, reports Reuters. According to unnamed sources with direct knowledge of the talks, one option being considered is combining parts of Channel 4 - including some channels, VoD services and ad operations - with BBC-owned UKTV. It would not include the flagship Channel 4 broadcast channel.

Mali secures alternative internet route through new Senegal fibre-optic link
Mali has secured an additional gateway to the global internet via Senegal, Ecofin reported. The Malian Transmission and Broadcasting Company (SMTD-SA) and Senegal Numerique (SENUM-SA) have announced the activation of a cross-border fibre connection at Kidira-Diboli. The link directly integrates their national backbone networks, offering land-locked Mali an alternative to its existing international internet routes.

Dutch operator Odido is introducing a new cloud telephony service for businesses, including an AI assistant and integration with customer relationship management (CRM) systems. Vodafone, Telefonica Germany and Deutsche Telekom have tested 'Quality on Demand' interface (API) service and network slicing to broadcast TV content in partnership with RTL Deutschland. Vodafone said the test was done during a DFB-Pokal or German Cup football competition match. Vodafone and Telefonica used Quality-on-Demand APIs to provide time-limited, defined network quality characteristics for selected production applications, while Deutsche Telekom deployed a 5G network slice.

Brazilian Q2 telecom revenue rises as data prices drop and usage surges
Driven by mobile revenue growth, total telecom sector revenue in Brazil rose by 3.1 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026 to BRL 34.96 billion, according to regulator Anatel. Brazilian IoT operator Arqia and space-tech firm Sateliot have partnered to launch a hybrid mobile-satellite IoT service in Brazil by late 2026. Brazilian regulator approves TIM-Vivo RAN sharing with conditions
Brazilian telecommunications regulator Anatel has conditionally approved an expanded Radio Access Network (RAN) sharing agreement between TIM Brasil and Vivo. The approval extends 2G network sharing until 31 December 2030 in 2,049 municipalities. The watchdog has granted 4G expansion for 265 new cities until May 2030 but the parties must not deactivate their own infrastructure in locations where they already hold a market share above 5 percent.
