European Commission clears Romania's fixed wholesale regulation plan after in-depth review

Following an extensive in-depth investigation, the European Commission has officially withdrawn its serious doubts regarding Romania's proposal to reintroduce regulation within the wholesale local access market at fixed locations. Back in January 2025, Romanian telecoms regulator ANCOM proposed to reintroduce regulation on this market to prevent price increases and protect consumer choice, identifying Digi Romania as having significant market power.

Michel Combot has joined French spectrum agency ANFR as deputy CEO, after serving in equivalent roles at telecom regulator Arcep between June 2010 and December 2011, and broadcast authority CSA (now Arcom) between January 2012 and May 2016. Combot spent seven years at French telecom federation FFTelecoms as managing director between mid-2016 and mid-2023, before taking the helm of digital trade association Numeum. Cetin Group revenues up 6% in 2025, EBITDA grows 11%

​Revenues of Czech wholesale operator Cetin Group totaled EUR 696 million in 2025, up by 6.3 percent year-on-year. EBITDA reached EUR 474 million, up by 11 percent excluding gains on the sale of investments in subsidiaries, and the capital investment increased almost 10 percent to EUR 306 million. Cetin Group divested its non-Czech operations in October 2024, and the results of these businesses, which were reported as discontinued operations in 2024, are excluded from the year-on-year comparison.

Gen Mobile increases data on prepaid bundles

Echostar's prepaid service Gen Mobile has refreshed offer with more data on its monthly bundles. The USD 10 plan doubles to 2 GB, the USD 20 plan rises from 5 to 8 GB, the USD 30 plan goes from 11 to 15 GB, and the USD 40 plan comes with 25 GB instead of 17 GB. All plans include 5G access and unlimited calls to over 100 countries, with no minimum contract or credit check.

T2 offers 6 months free in new porting campaign

Russian mobile operator T2 started a promotion to attract subscribers of other mobile operators to its network over mobile number porting. Free services for six months are offered to the new customers. A marketing campaign running on TV, outdoor, digital and other channels accompanies the offer and focuses on the ease of porting, in an attempt to ease concerns about difficulties switching provider.

Bureau-1440 and Sputniks awarded direct-to-cell spectrum in Russia

Russian state radio frequencies commission SRFC has allocated spectrum for direct-to-cell services to satellite operators Bureau-1440 and Sputniks, Interfax reports. The frequencies can be used for the satellite segment of a hybrid telecommunications system so customers can connect to satellite services using normal smartphones, tablets or IoT devices. The licences are valid until 31 March 2029.

Polish operator Polkomtel, trading under the Plus brand, offers customers buying the Samsung Galaxy S26 smartphone in its shops the smartwatch Watch 8 Classic free as a bonus. The promotion is valid until 10 May.

Polish company IS-Wireless has appointed Lukasz Bromirski the chief product & revenue officer. IS-Wireless is a provider of solutions for private and dual-use 5G networks. Bromirski has earlier worked at Cisco Poland for 21 years.

DPG Media revenues pass EUR 2 bln in 2025 after RTL Netherlands takeover

DPG Media reported revenues of EUR 2 billion for 2025, up from EUR 1.75 billion the previous year thanks to the Belgian company's takeover of RTL Netherlands from July. EBITDA grew to EUR 440 million from EUR 341 million in 2024, and the net profit was EUR 238 million for the year, up from EUR 182 million. DPG said it expects further growth in 2026, helped by the full consolidation of RTL NL.

Russian traffic exchange Piter-IX, based in St Petersburg, said that it plans to raise its prices for services. The rates will increase at least 10 percent, depending on the type of service, in order to take account of higher costs for the platform.

Deutsche Telekom, SAP to develop German e-govt app - report

Deutsche Telekom and SAP will develop the so-called Citizen app (Burger-App), Handeslblatt reports citing sources familiar with the matter. The app is intended to become the central access point for public services. Its use would enable citizens and residents to, for example, book appointments, apply for child benefits, or change their address, with 'Learning AI agents' assisting in basic tasks. SAP provides the software, while T-Systems is developing the IT infrastructure.

Beeline Kazakhstan expands broadband coverage in Mangystau region

Beeline Kazakhstan covered with its fixed broadband network more than 8,100 households in apartment houses in the city of Aktau in the Mangystau region within a year. More than 34,000 households in apartments and private houses were covered in the rest of the region, and the networks also was expanded in Zhanaozen, Mangystau and Atameken. The operator said plans to cover more than 7,500 additional households by the end of this year.

Oi's V.tal sale approved for BRL 4.5 billion

The Rio de Janeiro Commercial Court has approved the sale of Oi's remaining shares in wholesale fibre operator V.tal to a consortium led by BTG Pactual for BRL 4.5 billion. This decision follows complex negotiations, including creditor rejections and regulatory objections, but the deal ultimately received broad support from key stakeholders. The court's approval includes a condition prohibiting the new owners from launching an IPO for V.tal for two years and imposes a substantial penalty if the winning bid

Russian operator Megafon has deployed an indoor mobile network in a new terminal of the Blagoveshchensk airport in the Amur region. Mobile broadband at up to 55 Mbps is available there, the operator said.

Albania's Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) has introduced a new regulation to standardise telecom oversight in line with the country's new electronic communications law and EU standards. This regulation aims to regulate market entry and operations for electronic communication providers; define their rights and responsibilities; establish consistent legal, technical, and financial requirements for all operators; and strengthen AKEP's oversight of network security and user data protection

Inea raises prices

Polish operator Inea announced that it plans to raise prices for existing subscribers not on a fixed-term contract, due to higher operating costs. The increase will amount to 3.6 percent, in line with the annual inflation rate.

Inseego appoints former Canon Medical VP as head of people

Silvia Rocha-Espino has joined enterprise wireless connectivity and cloud solutions vendor Inseego as head of people and senior vice president. Rocha-Espino brings more than two decades of HR expertise amassed in roles spanning manufacturing, healthcare and technology. She was vice president for HR at Canon Medical Systems USA from mid-2019 until early 2021, director for HR with Canon Medical from mid-2018 to mid-2019, and director for HR at Kaiser Permanente from early 2017 to mid-2018.

Brightspeed tops 3 mln premises passed with fibre network

US operator Brightspeed announced that it has passed over 3 million premises with its fibre network, across its 20-state footprint. That's up from around 2.3 million reported last August when it raised new funding for the fibre build. Brightspeed said this is its second consecutive year of building more than one million fibre passings. It aims to reach ultimately more than 5 million homes and businesses in 20 states.

America Movil's Claro Ecuador unit has announced the launch of its digital financial services application Claro Pay for business customers with Android phones. The service allows entrepreneurs and small businesses to accept card payments without the need for additional devices.

Mediamarkt extends Feyenoord sponsorship for 3 years

Retail chain Mediamarkt has extended its sponsorship of the Rotterdam football club Feyenoord to mid-2030. This follows an initial three-year deal started in 2024. Its brand appears on the team's jerseys and in the stadium in Rotterdam, and it will also work with the team on other marketing and social projects. MediaMarket's Benelux head office is in Rotterdam.

CloudFerro opens new cloud region in Lodz

Polish company CloudFerro, a provider of cloud computing services, has founded a new cloud region in the city of Lodz. The company claims that the new site is ready for supporting AI projects, as well as for big data processing. The cloud region is housed at Tier-3 data centre with capacity up to 2.4 MW and more than 300 racks.

Liquid Intelligent prices senior notes offering

Liquid Intelligent Technologies has priced an offering of USD 300 million in senior secured notes due 2031 at a fixed coupon of 10.750 percent per annum. The transaction, which was oversubscribed two and half times, included anchor orders from certain development finance institutions, including DEG-Deutsche Investitions-und Entwicklungsgesellschaft. The offering is expected to close on 14 April.

Results from Ofcom's updated "Adults' Media Use and Attitudes" and "Adults' Media Lives" research reports have provided an insight into UK-wide media habits and online behaviours over the last year. According to the research, social media usage is becoming more passive and circumspect, but Artificial Intelligence adoption has widened.

Netflix grows MLB opening day audience to 3 mln in first live baseball broadcast

Netflix said it attracted around 3 million viewers in the US for its first live baseball game, shown on 25 March between the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants. The streaming company noted a particularly large share of viewers in the 18-49 range, helping Major League Baseball reach a younger audience than in previous years for its opening game of the season.
