Starlink sets 30 April deadline for user ID verification in Kenya

Starlink has introduced mandatory in-person identity verification for all its customers in Kenya, setting 30 April as the deadline for compliance. Subscribers who fail to complete the process by then risk having their internet service interrupted. In a notice to users, the satellite internet provider stated that the requirement follows directives from local authorities, who aim to collect data from internet users to curb cybercrime.

Swiss operator Salt has picked provider of IP routing and optical networking services Ribbon Communications to underpin the launch of its new tariffs called Corporate Internet. Ribbon Communications will provide its Application Server, a unified communications platform delivering voice and multimedia services across IP-based networks, and Session Border Controllers (SBCs) to control network policy and routing.

Lebanese operator Touch says it has activated national data roaming with Alfa in efforts to enhance service quality and expand mobile network coverage. Data roaming is currently available from 110 stations, distributed between 34 Alfa sites and 76 Touch sites, in areas where voice roaming is already available. Subscribers will now automatically switch networks to ensure they stay covered for calls and data across vital roads and remote areas of the North.

Brazil's telecommunications regulator, Anatel, has granted preliminary approval for V.tal to acquire Um Telecom. This authorisation is valid for 180 days, during which the companies must finalise the transaction and submit proof of completion to Anatel within 60 days of registering the deal. The acquisition, initially announced in late 2025, involves V.tal taking over 100 percent of Um Telecom (including 1Telecom) and potentially data centre assets. Portuguese telecom operator Meo has introduced a new, free call verification service called 'Origem Meo' to help prevent phone scams that use number spoofing. This service will also be available to Uzo and Moche brand customers, too. When a Meo customer receives a call from another Meo number (either within Portugal or while roaming), their phone screen will display a visual or text notification confirming that the number has been verified by the Meo network. Ekco, Dublin-based cyber security managed services provider, has acquired Cork-based Datalogix, operational technology (OT) company serving customers in Ireland, the UK and US. The acquisition will boost Ekco's security division revenues to EUR 100 million, accounting for half of group revenues of EUR 200 million. The Datalogix team will join Ekco, including Managing Director Der Cremen and CTO Damian White. This is Ekco's eighth acquisition in the last two years.

MTN Group's CEO Ralph Mupita has committed to reinvesting approximately USD 1 billion in Ghana over the next three years, targeting large-scale data centre development, expanded subsea cable connectivity, and youth digital skills training, News Ghana reported. Belgian ICT services group Cegeka has named Koen Deryckere its new CEO from May. He replaces Stijn Bijnens, who left last year to become the Proximus CEO. Deryckere comes from Accenture, where he has worked over 25 years and most recently was CEO for France and the Benelux. UK FTTP broadband coverage expands to over 81% of premises in 2025

A total of 81.3 percent of UK premises were covered by FTTP broadband at the end of Q4 2025, up from 79.5 percent in Q3 2025, according to the latest Point Topic analysis. Gigabit coverage was 88.4 percent at end-2025. The number of premises with access to 2 or more FTTP networks was 12.5 million, up 8.2 percent from the previous quarter, and slightly over 2.1 million UK premises were covered by three or more fibre networks, the market researcher estimates.

Mobile operators in Portugal are partnering with the government to distribute over 5,000 emergency roaming eSIM cards to people in storm-damaged areas who still don't have phone service. This initiative will allow affected individuals to connect to any available network while permanent repairs are underway. The agreement was made during a meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, and major national operators (Digi, Meo, Nos, and Vodafone), along with the regulator Anacom.

Mobiuz upgrades network in Andijan region

Uzbekistan mobile operator Mobiuz said that it has upgraded 77 existing base stations in the Andijan region in January and February. LTE-800 and LTE-900 services have launched on those base stations, expanding the coverage of the network.
