Inmarsat wants to continue using 3.5 GHz band in Burum

Dutch security services are moving from the satellite earth station in Burum to make room for mobile networks and 5G in the 3.5 GHz band. However, there is already a commercial company at the ground station in Burum, namely Inmarsat. It has dishes that receive signals from the Inmarsat-4 communication satellites in geostationary orbit around Earth. Emergency communication for shipping runs via these I-4 satellites and partly via Burum. This will also apply in the 3.5 GHz band, but the protection will expire in 2022. A good solution has not yet been found, says Gerard Luursema, Inmarsat senior
