However prices for fixed broadband and multiplay packages remain relatively high. The study looks at prices in relation to the neighbouring countries Germany, France, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Proximus CFO to depart in January

Proximus is losing another top executive, with CFO Mark Reid announcing plans to step down at the end of January 2026 to take a new job in the UK. He will become CFO at outsourcing group Serco from next March. Reid joined the Belgian operator in May 2021, after working previously at Liberty Global. Nicolas Gaertner, deputy CFO, will take over as interim CFO from mid-January until a permanent successor is named.

Telenet CTO joins Liberty Global to lead networks strategy

Liberty Global has named Luk Bruynseels to the new position of Managing Director Networks & Capital Allocation, from March 2026. Bruynseels come from Telenet, Liberty Global's Belgian subsidiary, where he has worked 16 years, most recently as CTO. He will be responsible for fixed and mobile networks and relevant capital allocations, playing "a key role in the ongoing shaping of Liberty Global's network strategy", the group said.

Cegeka to operate entirely on renewable energy from 2026

Belgian IT services provider Cegeka said it aims to operate entirely on its own self-generated renewable energy from 2026. This is part of a target to offer zero-carbon cloud services by 2030. As part of the plan, the company is investing in its own wind turbine in Tessenderlo and agreed a long-term contract with the Kristal Solar Park in Lommel. The projects should generate enough energy to power its data centres, offices and electric vehicles from next year, both in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Digi Belgium sees FTTH footprint reaching 100,000 homes by year-end

Digi Belgium is speeding up its FTTH roll-out and expects to have around 100,000 homes ready for service by the end of this year, CEO Jeroen Degadt told De Tijd. Work is underway in 12 municipalities around Brussels, Ghent and Charleroi, and the group also acquired a small network in the Liege region. With sales solid in areas where the network is available, the group is focused on expanding its infrastructure steadily, he said.

Disney+ to launch cheaper subscription with ads in Belgium

Disney+ will launch a cheaper ad-supported subscription in Belgium from 27 January 2026. The new Standard with Ads plan will cost EUR 6.99 per month, less than the existing Standard plan at EUR 10.99 and Premium offer at EUR 15.99 per month. Belgium to relax radiation limits for indoor small cells

Belgian regulator Bipt has proposed relaxing radiation limits for indoor base stations without active antenna systems in the 3,400-3,800 MHz band. The EIRP limit would increase to -34 dBm/MHz per antenna under 3,390 MHz, which is strong enough to support indoor systems without disturbing military radars using frequencies under 3.4 GHz. Digital device use by young people does not have only negative effects, according to an opinion from the Superior Health Council in Belgium. The public advisory board said the impact depends heavily on age, content, platform design and the use context. Its recommendations based on age are designed to support healthy media use, limiting the potential risks and supporting the social and educational benefits of digital media.

Belgian telecom market contracts in Q3 on lower mobile, fixed telephony revenues

Service revenues on the Belgian telecom market fell 0.5 percent to EUR 1.79 billion in the third quarter. While broadband continues to grow, this could not offset a drop in revenues from both fixed and mobile telephony, according to the latest quarterly report from Telecompaper.

Bipt supports switch to opt-in system for telemarketing in Belgium

Belgian regulator Bipt has published its opinion on draft legislation to start an opt-in system for telemarketing in Belgium. Bipt said it supports the project to move away from the current opt-out system, which should help reduce the amount of nuisance calls. Its input is on the legal text, noting that in addition to proposed changes to the commercial code, the law on electronic communications of 2005 must also be updated, to amend the wording on a central database of numbers opted out of telemarketing.

Citymesh, Inetum win EUR 50 mln contract for Bruges city network

Citymesh and Inetum announced a contract to deliver a LAN infrastructure for the city of Bruges. The contract has a potential value of EUR 50 million over six years and is designed to upgrade and strengthen the Belgian municipality's network. Citymesh will be responsible for the delivery, installation and maintenance of the LAN infrastructure, including enterprise switches and related monitoring and management software. It also provides advisory services on the network design and support.

LCL agrees cloud connectivity with Megaport

Belgian data centre operator LCL announced a new agreement with Megaport to work on global connectivity. The deal gives customers at LCL sites direct, secure access to over a thousand data centres and major cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS. Flexible, on-demand bandwidth is available over the new connections using Megaport's platform for activating and managing capacity.

VUB university inaugurates Sofia supercomputer for Flemish research community

The VUB university in Brussels has inaugurated a tier-1 supercomputer with support from the Flemish region. Known as Sofia, the computer is located at the Nexus data centre just outside the capital, at the VUB's Green Energy Park in Zellik. The computer replaces previous infrastructure at universities in Ghent and Leuven to provide the region with the most advanced equipment for research. Infobel fined for unlawful sharing of personal data

The online phone directory Infobel was fined EUR 40,000 for reselling personal data without authorisation. The fine follows a consumer complaint to the Belgian Data Protection Authority over unsolicited advertising. The marketer obtained the consumer's contact details from an Infobel database dating from 2006.

Proximus, Telenet, Orange clear wholesale broadband margin squeeze tests

There is no margin squeeze on the wholesale broadband access market in Belgium, according to the latest tests by regulator Bipt based on data for Q2 and Q3 2025. It checked the offers from Proximus, Telenet and Voo/Orange and found there is sufficient room between their wholesale prices for network access and their retail prices to allow healthy competition for rivals on their networks.
