Kazakhstan, Belgium sign agreements on AI, science and space technologies

Kazakhstan and Belgium have signed a number of strategic agreements aimed at advancing artificial intelligence, science, digital infrastructure, and space technologies. As reported by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the documents were signed during the visit of Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Belgium.

Belgian IT services provider Cegeka announced the takeover of 3Point, a cybersecurity and IT consulting firm active especially in the defense and public sectors. The takeover strengthens the recently created defense unit at Cegeka and its efforts to expand in the critical infrastructure market in response to growing demand for greater IT resilience in Europe. No financial details were disclosed.

Flemish proposal to put data centres last in line for new power connections

Data centres and battery parks may fall to the bottom of the list for access to the electricity grid in Flanders, according to a new proposal from the regional government parties. A report in De Tijd said the proposal would give households and businesses willing to adopt flexible energy use priority for new connections to the congested grid, while data centres would have the lowest priority when capacity is limited.

KBC adds eSim data roaming to app with Firsty

Belgian bank KBC is adding roaming data to its mobile app, in cooperation with the mobile services provider Firsty. KBC Mobile users can buy and manage roaming bundles for various destinations directly in the app, using an eSim card. Daily passes start at EUR 3.50, with prices falling as longer periods are booked. Over 180 destinations are covered. Customers need to install the eSim just once, and can then use it for multiple trips or bundles.

Netcracker  has announced an extended contract with Belgian cable operator Telenet to consolidate business-grade services into a unified BSS infrastructure. Telenet will migrate enterprise accounts and B2B products onto Netcracker's digital BSS platform, including dedicated modules for Revenue Management, Commerce Management, Customer Management, Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) and Service Inventory Management.

Eurofiber announces death of CFO Tollenaar

Edze Tollenaar, the CFO of the Eurofiber Group, has passed away at the age of 60, the company's board announced. He was finance director at the operator since mid-2016 and previously held finance roles at Liberty Global and UPC Netherlands. In a tribute posted on its website, the company said Tollenaar had a "a huge heart and an amazing mind", with the executive "instrumental in the development and success of our company".

The Advertising Council in Belgium has come out in favour of legislation restricting access to social media for young people. The industry group said international platforms had shown a structural inability to verify the age of their users, exposing young people to advertising for alcohol and unhealthy food. Investment in the telecom sector in Belgium is under pressure from a complex, fragmented regulatory environment, according to a report from the tech industry association Agoria. Complex permitting processes, a high tax burden and a steady stream of new regulations are holding back investment in telecom infrastructure, the group warned. Obtaining a permit in Belgium takes at least three months, compared to less than three weeks in the Netherlands and 4-6 weeks in France.

Belgian provider Mobile Vikings saw its revenue increase by 20.4 percent to EUR 111 million in 2025, driven by strong performance in fixed internet and mobile, according to its recently filed annual report published in Belgium's official gazette.  Operating profit fell 2.1 percent to EUR 6.8 million as customer growth pushed up costs, while net profit was down 9.2 percent to EUR 5.6 million due to higher taxes and interest payments. Belgian regulator launches consultation on Easy Switch rules

Belgian telecoms regulator Bipt is inviting stakeholders to provide input for a mandatory evaluation of the Easy Switch royal decree, which governs the process for switching fixed-line service providers. The consultation runs until 31 July 2026, with Bipt's final evaluation due to be submitted to the minister responsible for telecommunications and published on its website before the end of 2026.

Orange Belgium has requested to surrender part of its spectrum in this band while retaining multi-year rights for its remaining active links. Bipt is partially granting the request.

Proximus said it had deployed three 5G network slices simultaneously at a single location for the first time. Telenet reports fixed network disruptions, pledges 40% increase in field engineers

Telenet said it is suffering intermittent disruptions on its fixed network in certain areas. The Belgian operator attributed the problems to a combination of ongoing infrastructure works in public spaces affecting cables, variable weather conditions, and network components currently requiring additional attention.

Digi Belgium adds 60 GB plan to mobile portfolio

Digi Belgium has expanded its mobile offering with a new plan that includes 60 GB of mobile data for EUR 9 per month. With the launch, the operator has added a fourth mobile plan to its portfolio. The new package includes unlimited calls to Belgian networks and complements Digi's existing subscriptions, which offer 7 GB for EUR 3, 30 GB for EUR 5 and 40 GB for EUR 7 per month.

Bpost to exclusively sell Digi telco services at post offices

Belgian postal operator Bpost has signed a five-year agreement with telecom provider Digi Belgium, making Digi's mobile and broadband subscriptions available through its nationwide network of post offices. The telecom services are already offered in 83 larger post offices and will be rolled out gradually to all 655 locations over the coming months. Bpost aims to achieve nationwide coverage by this summer.

Proximus NXT survey finds AI governance lagging adoption

Belgian companies are adopting AI rapidly, but governance and cybersecurity issues are often neglected, according to a report from Proximus NXT based on an Ipsos suvey of over 400 organisations with at least 10 employees each. The research found that 81 percent of the organisations allow employees to use AI tools in their daily work, but only 29 percent have a formal policy on AI. Less than four in ten (37%) have organised training to raise awareness on the related risks and obligations.
