Swedish telecoms regulator PTS has announced plans to hold an auction for licences to use radio transmitters in the 1500 MHz frequency band in the first quarter of 2028. Demand exceeds supply for the band, which should be able to improve both coverage and capacity, said Anna-Maria Lann, head of the watchdog's spectrum analysis unit.

Italy's retail sales returned to monthly growth in March, rising 0.8 percent in value and 0.7 percent in volume compared to February, according to the latest preliminary data from national statistics office Istat. Telia participates in Nato's Locked Shields 2026

Telia Company said it was part of Sweden's contribution to Locked Shields 2026, the annual exercise held by the Nato Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE). T-Mobile Poland is offering prepaid customers who subscribe to the recurring plan Go! M free services during the first month. Customers buying a starter package for PLN 5 need to top-up at least PLN 10 in order to access the promotion. The standard monthly rice for the package is PLN 35, for 50 GB as well as unlimited calls and SMS/MMS.

Kazakhstan's state property fund Samruk-Kazyna has acquired a 10.43 percent stake in the national operator Kazakhtelecom, reports Profit.kz. The fund increased its shareholding in the operator from 80.85 percent to 91.28 percent. The market value of the newly-acquired stake is around KZT 47 billion.

Russian smart speaker market passes 1 mln units in Q1

Russian sales of smart speakers totaled 1 million units in the first quarter of this year, according to figures from the mobile and electronics retail chain M.Video. Sales revenues amounted to RUB 9.9 billion. Sales of smart speakers with local voice assistants Alice, Salut and Marusya formed more than 96 percent of the market.

Russian operator Megafon announced it has upgraded its LTE network in the whole area of the city of Rostov. The operator deployed new base stations and modernised existing sites in the city, adding more spectrum. Download speeds up to 80 Mbps are now available to customers there.

Airtel Africa has called on African governments to recognise telecommunications as a core economic pillar and to implement two specific tax reforms that it says could dramatically accelerate digital inclusion across the continent. Airtel Africa chief regulatory officer and Chair of GSMA Africa's Policy Group, Daddy Mukadi called forthe changes in a speech at the 'Etats Generaux du Secteur des Postes et Telecommunications' in Kinshasa.

Nova launches affordable 5G FWA and mobile telephony brand as Kosmos

Icelandic operator Nova is formally launching the low-cost broadband and mobile telecoms company it had announced with it first quarter results and has named it Kosmos. Nova said Kosmos is basing its services exclusively on 5G connectivity and embedded SIM cards (eSIMs). It will use artificial intelligence, a small staff and full automation to enable it to offer affordable services. Customers can now sign up at kosmos.is and receive the first month's service free.

Vitel Wireless partners with OPay for airtime distribution

Vitel Wireless announced partnerships with two of Nigerian digital payment companies to support sales of the MVNO's airtime and data bundles. Opay and Moniepoint will help to expand access to the services in rural areas, allowing customers to purchase Vitel Wireless airtime and data directly from their bank accounts and digital wallets. The move builds on Vitel's existing partnerships with traditional financial institutions such as Fidelity Bank and Zenith Bank.

Telespazio to distribute Greenerwave's satcom terminals across Europe

Telespazio, a joint venture between Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%), announced that its French subsidiary has signed a distribution partnership with Greenerwave, a France-based deeptech start‑up specialising in energy‑efficient flat user terminals for GEO/LEO satellites. Under the agreement, Greenerwave's satcom terminals will become part of Telespazio's product portfolio, targeting the government, defense and security sectors across mainland Europe and the United Kingdom.

IMBIL signs up with Airtel Nigeria to support new MVNOs

IMBIL Telecom Solutions signed a commercial agreement with Airtel Nigeria to enable the launch of new MVNOs in the country. As a MVNE/A in Nigeria, IMBIL is providing the infrastructure needed for these virtual operators. Leveraging this new partnership, IMBIL Telecom has already onboarded five MVNOs. Several additional operators are in advanced stages of integration and are expected to begin commercial operations in the coming months, the company said.

Qorvo benefited from resilient sales in its high-powered amplifier segment in its fourth fiscal quarter to end March, which helped to offset declining revenues from its advanced cellular, connectivity, and sensor products.
