Vi launches 5G services in Chennai city

Indian mobile operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has expanded its 5G services to Chennai, the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. With this launch, Vi 5G is now available across all five metro cities, including Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai. Vi recently announced plans to expand its 5G service coverage to 90 more cities nationwide.

Uzbekistan mobile operator Perfectum Mobile has launched its 5G standalone network in the city of Chirchiq in the Tashkent region with new base stations in the city. The network is used for providing fixed-wireless services, with broadband at up to 1 Gbps available for customers.

Oi creditors try to stop sale of V.tal shares - report

A group of Oi's creditors is trying to stop the sale of the company's remaining V.tal shares to BTG Pactual, reported Valor Economico. They have asked a New York bankruptcy court to enforce a previous agreement related to Oi's Brazilian reorganization plan. The creditors claim Oi is violating this agreement by trying to sell its V.tal stake, which is a major asset used as collateral, without following the rules. They argue that BTG Pactual's offer was too low and was rejected by most bondholders.

Pilar provides services to 80 local operators

Russian tower infrastructure operator Pilar, a subsidiary of the mobile operator T2, said that the number of telecom companies using its services reached 80 in April. The base includes local ISPs as well as regional mobile operators. Local operators are able to reduce their expenses using the Pilar infrastructure. The group owns more than 33,500 telecommunications towers across the country.

Silknet revenues grow to GEL 619 mln in 2025

Revenues of the Georgian Silknet Group totaled GEL 618.9 million in 2025, up from GEL 582.0 million the previous year. Commercial revenues amounted to GEL 567.6 million, increasing from GEL 530.1 million in 2024, and income from carrier services reached GEL 51.0 million, down from GEL 51.9 million. The net profit was GEL 200.3 million, up from GEL 194.0 million in 2024.

Polish wholesale operator Polski Swiatlowod Otwarty (PSO) announced that it covered more than 11,000 new households with its fibre network at 67 locations in March. Most of the new homes passed were in Warsaw (1,161), Wroclaw (829) and Lodz (740). The operator also upgraded more than 40,000 addresses on its hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) network to the FTTH standard, and almost 160 additional households in five sites were covered with fibre using public subsidies. Rostelecom expands GPON network in Kirov region

Russian national operator Rostelecom has expanded the coverage of its fibre-optic network in the town of Slobodskoy in the Kirov region. Around 1,600 private residences have been covered with the GPON network there. Around 6,000 households use services from the operator in the town, and 80 percent of private residences are covered with the fibre network from Rostelecom.

Bite Latvia to invest EUR 5 mln in new service management systems

Bite Latvia announced plans to invest EUR 5 million in the implementation of cloud-based systems for modernisation of its mobile service management system. A key component of the project is the replacement of the customer data and service management system (HLR/HSS) and a complete transition to Ericsson products. This will allow the operator to ensure a higher level of network security, more stable operation,and significantly improved system performance and scalability, Bite said.

Orange wins mobile tender at Lesser Poland Police

Orange Poland has won a tender on providing mobile services and devices at the police office of the Lesser Poland region. The deal totals PLN 2.89 million. The operator Polkomtel, trading under the Plus brand, submitted a PLN 3.04 million bid under the tender. Orange Poland will provide the regional police office with 2,750 mobile SIMs and 1,800 handsets.

Brits favour internet access over other household needs - Zen Internet

New research from ISP Zen Internet, conducted by Censuswide, shows that many Brits now give priority to WiFi over basic household needs - with many saying they would give up hot water (36%), their fridge (34%), winter heating (32%), cooking appliances (47%) or terrestrial TV (54%) before giving up their broadband connectivity.

Russian operator Megafon announced it will upgrade the network infrastructure at the campuses of Moscow City University. The operator has signed an agreement with the university to modernise the network and deploy additional equipment, helping improve the coverage and capacity of the mobile network there. The operator will also offer staff and students of the university special tariff plans.

Play launches 121 new base stations in Q1

Polish operator Play, controlled by Iliad, announced that it deployed 121 new base stations in the first quarter of this year. In March alone, the operator launched 37 new base stations, putting its network at a total of 13,296 base stations across the country at the end of March.

Deutsche Telekom starts Starlink broadband service for firms

Deutsche Telekom is offering satellite-based broadband service for business customers through the Starlink satellite system. SIA ensures reliable connectivity at sites where fibre-optic and mobile networks are not fully available, or where additional redundancy is required. Telekom supports customers with installation and network integration and says it is the first in Germany to offer satellite broadband as a fully managed service.

Over 23,000 rural Irish firms connected to NBP fibre network

National Broadband Ireland (NBI) said that a total of 52,675 farms across the country can now connect to the government-funded National Broadband Plan (NBP) rural network. The number of farms who have taken connections has more than doubled to just over 23,000, from 10,000 two years ago.

UK improves compensation for telecom customers, supports faster complaints resolution

UK regulator Ofcom has introduced new rules for telecoms customer complaints resolution, with the timeframe before consumers can access Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services cut from eight to six weeks. The new rules take effect from 08 April. The move is designed to provide consumers with quicker complaints resolution.

Dazn launches Playmakers global influencers initiative

Global sports platform Dazn has launched a new global influencers initiative called Dazn Playmakers to expand its sports creators' network. The scheme will create a worldwide community of sports content creators/storytellers, who will produce on-site and social content from sporting events to boost engagement with sports fans. Dazn's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Adam Knappy, said the Playmakers programme would help "make Dazn the natural home for sports creators".

UK govt selects Sir Ian Cheshire as new Ofcom chairman

The UK government has announced Sir Ian Cheshire, former chairman of UK public service broadcaster Channel 4, as the preferred candidate to lead regulator Ofcom. He will be appointed to a 4-year term as Ofcom chairman, subject to a parliamentary pre-appointment hearing. If confirmed, he will take over from Lord Michael Grade, whose terms as Ofcom chair runs until end-April 2026. The chair of Ofcom is paid GBP 120,000 a year for three days a week.

Ziggo is looking for customers to test its new service on the Delta Fiber network, before the official launch later this year. Customers in the Delta area can try out the home broadband and TV services and provide feedback on the connection to help Ziggo prepare the commercial offering. Ziggo offers a discount and cinema voucher in exchange for the feedback supplied through an online survey.

AT&T has announced a mutual service and branding cooperation with global sports supporter services platform Fanatics. Fanatics will use AT&T's mobile and home internet networks and its enterprise expertise to provide services for sports fans nationwide. In turn, AT&T customers will gain access to exclusive Fanatics rewards and opportunities. The Fanatics platform serves over 100 million fans and has relationships with more than 5,000 athletes and celebrities.
