Alares Internet acquires Oquei Telecom group

Brazilian regional ISP Alares Internet has agreed to acquire the Oquei Telecom group, comprising Oquei Telecom, Oquei Tecnologia, Oquei BR Telecom, and Oquei BR Tecnologia. The total acquisition price is BRL 189.0 million, with BRL 75.6 million payable at closing and the remainder spread across 10 semi-annual instalments.

One Hungary has ceased selling its digital terrestrial television product, One Terrestrial TV, signalling the functional end of paid over-the-air television in the country, reported HWSW. The pay-TV service struggled to gain traction. A late adoption of DVB-T2 technology, coupled with declining consumer interest, caused subscriber numbers to fall to a mere 47,000 by the end of last year.

NTT Docomo has deployed Nokia's MantaRay AutoPilot system to automate mobile network optimisation using AI, becoming the first operator in Japan to introduce the platform, according to the operator. Docomo said it has also successfully deployed the system on a public cloud platform and used it to optimise its mobile network from a cloud-based environment, which it claimed was a global first.

Tele2 set a new all-time high for data traffic on its mobile network 20 June, as the Swedish national team played in the World Cup the same day as a major holiday in Sweden, Midsummer's Day. The operator said traffic increased almost 60 percent compared to the same holiday a year ago. The match hours of 19:00 and 21:00 hours were the highest traffic ever in a two-hour period.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed a platform designed to help researchers and developers test, analyse and validate digital certificates based on post-quantum cryptography (PQC) as organisations prepare for the transition to quantum-resistant security systems. Called QuantumPKI Studio, the platform supports the creation, analysis and validation of conventional X.509 certificates as well as PQC-based and hybrid certificates within a single environment.

LG Uplus said more than 80 percent of its employees are using generative AI tools one month after the company deployed Microsoft's Copilot as a standard workplace application across the organisation. Employees generated more than 440,000 prompts during the first month of deployment, with staff using AI an average of 86 times each. LG Uplus said approximately 63 percent of users access AI tools at least once a day.

The operator will provide connections for 24,000 remote water meters, including IoT modules and services. Katowickie Wodociagi has secured PLN 8.993 million EU funding for the project, and the project cost is estimated at PLN 12.855 million. The water metering system will be connected over the NB-IoT network.
