Orange France increases service termination fee for Livebox customers

Orange France has raised a number of charges payable by fixed broadband customers cancelling their service. As detailed in the operator's latest tariff brochure, the termination fee for Livebox packages has increased by 15 percent, from EUR 60 to EUR 69. The fee now matches those charged by rivals Bouygues Telecom and Free. Among Orange's main competitors, SFR remains the operator with the lowest comparable charge, at EUR 59.

Motorola veteran Sergio Buniac moves to Qualcomm to lead mobile business

Qualcomm has hired a veteran of the smartphone industry, Sergio Buniac, to take over management of its mobile and consumer devices business. Buniac was president of Motorola Mobility for eight years until this July, and helped lead the brand's comeback after it became part of Lenovo. After over 30 years with Motorola, his new role from 02 September will be EVP and group general manager of Mobile, Compute and Personal AI at Qualcomm Technologies.

GSMA says closing Malawi's mobile internet gap could release MWK 1 trillion by 2030

Expanding mobile internet access in Malawi could transform millions of lives by broadening the availability of education, financial systems and digital public services, says the GSMA report 'Driving digital transformation of the economy in Malawi: opportunities, policy recommendations and the role of mobile'. It says that targeted digital policy reforms could generate MWK 1.1 trillion in additional economic value and create 490,000 jobs by 2030.

National Communications Authority (NCA) board chair Mavis A. Ampah has inaugurated a twelve-member dispute resolution committee to streamline conflict handling in Ghana's telecommunications and electronic communications sectors. NCA director general Edmund Y. Fianko said the committee is central to the regulator's statutory mandate and will provide a transparent, structured process to deal with industry disagreements and to strengthen market confidence.

The Walt Disney Company Nordic & Baltic has announced new local coverage for the new football season for La Liga on ESPN on Disney+ in Denmark and Sweden. From 14 August, the new ESPN La Liga podcast features leading local football voices from Denmark and Sweden. Alongside the podcast, all 380 La Liga matches will stream live exclusively on ESPN on Disney Plus in the two countries.

Isle of Man-based Manx Telecom has announced the launch of an online safety roadshow for Year 6 pupils across the island. Charter to roll out Spectrum brand in Cox markets from mid-September as merger closes

Charter Communications has completed its takeover of Cox Communications, confirming its position as the US's largest cable operator. The company plans to roll out its Spectrum brand and packages to Cox markets from mid-September. This will include an offer of one year free mobile service for Cox subscribers and the launch of Spectrum local news networks in new markets. Other plans include returning Cox's customer service to US call centres and expanding Spectrum's TV and streaming deals to Cox customers.

She took up the role on an acting basis last December following the departure of Noora Jayasekara. Chile is considering two routes for a submarine cable linking the southern Magallanes region with Antarctica after a pre-feasibility study commissioned by the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications found the project viable, confirmed Undersecretary Romina Garrido in an interview with local daily El Mercurio. The shorter option would run about 1,600 km from Punta Arenas and Puerto Williams to three points on the Antarctic Peninsula and cost an estimated USD 370 million.
